If we do decide to stop using discord, can whatever thing or things we try next not be another chrome browser pretending to be a desktop application?

The Discord age verification fiasco is maybe a sign that we should normalize self hosting services that we use on a regular basis.

The biggest problem isn't a data breach. The biggest issue is that every company we are forced to use to live in a society can alter the terms of the deal at any time.

Honestly, I miss the days of skype/irc and mumble/ts servers. If you wanted to chat w/ voice you got on mumble/ts, if you wanted to IM someone, you used skype or MSN, or whatever particularly fancy one you had. The centralized stuff is convenient, but convenience always comes at an invisible price.
