Have you ever been in Florence, Italy? The cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore has this cool effect when the sun rises it shines on one side of the building while other sides are still in shadow. And there is a small tower that makes a gap where you get this view.

Guillemots coming in for a landing. They are all trying to land at the same time and place.

This is not a multi exposure or a photoshop image. When the guillemot comes in from the ocean they come in large groups an all want to land on the few possible landing sites on the cliffs. Yes they do collide sometimes.

Happy holidays. Here are some of my photo experiences this year.

This is a long exposure black and white photo from Piazza del Popolo in Rome. The twin churches are quite interesting.

4 from Italy

You do not have to visit Italy in the summer. The winter is also quite cool. Rain, fog and murmuring starlings are options you might experience if you are lucky.

Story behind this image: In 2021, a good friend of my wife's sadly passed away. Lynsey, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2015. When diagnosed, she was informed that she would be lucky to see Christmas that same year. However, Lynsey bravely battled the cancer for five and a half years before she passed on 11th April 2021. This image was made on 14th April 2021, the morning of Lynsey's funeral. As soon as I seen the two birds fly into my frame I was immediately reminded of Lynsey and her husband Simon. This is a very poignant and personal image.

On 02/07/22 , I received a phone call from Nigel Danson who informed me that my image 'Souls Tied' was the overall winner in World Landscape Photographer 2022.

A classic image of mine, and one that is deeply personal.

This is from a series I have going called memories. As a kid living in the countryside in Norway in the 70s/80s we played outside and did some «exploring». Trying to find exiting stuff … and a small little wood in a field like this? It was like a treasure island.

This is a tufted duck. Or toppand as we say in Norway. It is a misty morning quite high in the mountains of Norway. It is June, but the snow is till present not too far from this lake.

So for abount a month now it has been snowing and raining on and off. I live by the coastline. Which makes it pretty wet, but it is also quite mild during the winter. That is why it takes a while for the snow to build up in the start of the winter. Sun rises 09:41 and sets 14:37 today.
