he's right and he should say it and also the fucking audacity of the *Tories* complaining about cost as if it wouldn't have been a tenth of the price if they'd done something about it back when they first took power

When someone says βScientists do not want you to knowβ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They canβt shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

βI remember something Alan Moore told me: "It is so important to reenchant these places that we live in, to actually give back the energies that have been bled out of them. An empowered landscape creates empowered people, and the reverse is also trueβ¦.ββ
Picture 1: doctor looking at chart tells patient, "Your body has run out of magnesium." Picture 2: patient replies with a smile, "0mg"
No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than βcontentβ. Even if youβre using the word βcontentβ ironically, or as a cute little joke, donβt. When someone calls writing βcontentβ theyβre pissing on someoneβs hard work & passion. βContentβ is Technosatanβs henchword.
Excited for this episode!
Blacksmith, mebbe?
is life just a series of days where you're tired in the afternoon and wide awake at night, running behind on weekly deadlines, and seeing pants get slim and big and then slim again over the years until you die?
Highly recommend watching Alysa Liu's gold-metal free skating performance. Even if you know nothing about the technical aspects, there's no way not to get caught up in the raw talent & beauty & joy. Humans can do some pretty cool stuff.
And if a British Monarch behaved like King Trump, we'd get the gallows out at Banqueting House again
"While America declares presidents above the law and tells citizens to 'just move on'. Imagine telling George Washington this."
If a British PM behaved like Donald Trump I'd like to think the King would oust him, constitutional crisis or not.
PS. The late Queen should've fucked Andrew off into the long grass long ago. Everyone I know who met him said he was an arrogant entitled wanker.
Favourite son or not, that's incompatible with public service even if he wasn't a horrendous nonce.
And there's my (mental?) justification of hereditary monarchy in a nutshell... I trust a posh bloke with a shiny hat and orb to Generally Do Right because unlike everyone else he's personally incentivised to Please Keep Things Sane and Right long-term.
It feels like a directive to everyone (police, politicians, us) to Do Our Duty Properly For The Good of Us All.
Perhaps I'm just a monarchist but when the King says "Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. My family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all" it feels more definite than anything anyone else could say on this.
Charles de-princing his brother and issuing the statement he did is the least controversial thing in the world. It is obviously correct.
3. Without positive public opinion there would be no monarchy, and the monarchy well knows it.
4. That public opinion stems from a sense the monarchy is above/apart from the nonsense of year-to-year (or century-to-century?) politics, but relies heavily on Never Taking A Side which is controversial.
1. It's good our PM has a boss they have to bow to and listen to once a week, and failure to do that is generally seen as Not Okay across the board.
2. It's good our military owe allegiance to the monarch, not the Government.
So I'm a lifelong lefty. I'm also a monarchist with no logical defence of hereditary monarchy as a system (coz OBVIOUSLY). My best attempt is always something like...
@stephango.com Have you written anywhere about how you're personally using Obsidian CLI & (presumably) Claude Code et al together?
The conversation about bad PRs in FOSS projects needs to move away from "is it AI or not" to: does the contributor care or not? That's a different dimension. You can make good PRs with AI; you can make bad PRs without AI. Assuming a perfect overlap is disingenuous at best.
I feel like @oldenoughtosay.com would enjoy this Wikipedia page
idk about you, but for me, the gap between:
1. we can do so much, and
2. humans can only understand so much
is widening to the point of oblivion.
As it happens I was fixing a recursion-related bug which only appeared on windows builds just yesterday. How apt π
Iβm intrigued to know what window frames in window frames look like

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeareβs Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

"actually his stuff was very Derivative and not Original" like, you don't have to do this. it is good for us all to sit with the cognitive dissonance that a very bad person can make very good art. it is good for us to work through the moral ramifications of that.
