like at what point (aka how many goals scored) does it stop becoming a sign of respect to play to your full strength and becomes 'okay, clearly you are way stronger than me and are bullying me instead'

scoreline like this intrigues me cause it asks the question "is it still a sign of respect to play to a team's full strength when that team is much stronger than the other and are causing more of an humiliation?"

And as I wrote this, Sydney went up and scored 2 successive goals πŸ™ƒ

Victory's defence have been doing well to limit the shooting space for Sydney players. They have been active to jump out and block the shooting chance before Sydney players could even think about making a shot. That's the good stuff.

Don't know if anyone likes to read my tactical notes, but here I am posting one more about the Big Blue (aka Sydney vs Melbourne Victory)!

Vietnam's development curve with women's football has been slow, if not stagnate. A lot of young players coming through, yes, but we need fresh ideas from the coaching staff, and we're not getting that at all. I still respect coach Chung, but we desperately need new ideas.

That was a disappointing, but not surprising result for Vietnam. With not a lot of new ideas being introduced to the team, I just don't think our women's team is that good anymore. Now for damage control against Japan.

Also credits to Uzbekistan's defending for still holding strong (except for the shirt pull) and their keeper for pulling off some good saves.

Probably one of the areas where it might hurt China in the long run. Without their key players, I feel like the players might be overthinking a bit with their shooting. They can get the ball into good positions, but their accuracy has been way off.

Along with Clare Hunt and her final third passes, the distribution from the #Matildas' centre-back pairing tonight was pretty much excellent and a key cog in helping the team progressed the ball into the penalty box very often.

Just want to expand this with data just cause I can. She just looked very confident whenever she made a pass and didn't seem to hesitate to look for forward passes or line-breaking passes. Might not've come across on TV but I definitely felt that way watching her live from the stadium.

Hmmm... A heavily-rotated South Korea vs a full-strength Philippines. Interesting matchup. Decent turnout for a very hot and humid day as well.

A few outliers:
- Iran didn't have many shots, but their counter-attacks were quite decent and led to a few dangerous chances.
- I thought Vietnam and India had a mixture of long shots from outside of the box and chances from inside.
- Chinese Taipei didn't make any shot, and the Philippines had 1.

04.03.2026 23:25 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

The overall trend from the first matchday was just:
- The favourites tried to get the ball as close to the goal as possible, thus most of their chances came inside of/near the 6-yard box.
- The rest just took their chances whenever they could, even from way out and not near the penalty box at all.

Had a quick idea to sus out the favourites for this year's Women's Asian Cup just by looking at the quality and location of their goal-scoring chances from their first match. And...yup, the numbers agree and correlate well with the tactical stuff that I spotted from the matches.

Honestly, if that match had finished at 1-1, it would've been a very disappointing result for Vietnam. Wasn't the most convincing result and performance considering they were the favourites, but credits to India for putting up a fight.

Hard to actually pinpoint who Japan's main creator was given their preference to go down both wings. One thing that can be pointed out from their pass network is mostly how their midfield operated, with Fuka Nagano preferred to stay deep, Yui Hasegawa and Momoko Tanikawa played higher.

Don't think xG data even matter given how dominant Japan were. Good for the Nadeshiko for getting the ball into the 6-yard box very often, but just like South Korea on Monday, the top teams need to get most of those shots on target.
