A free-world countryβs president berating the president of a country fighting invasion by another country many times more powerful than it.
Then publicly trying to hold them ransom for significant proportions of their minerals in return for protection against an invasion they provoke.

I see in the White House, a whole load of guys who either severely bullied as kids; or they were the bullies.
They certainly are now and hardly any more grown up.

Rainfall and river flow: weekly reports for England
Weekly reports on rainfall and river flow in England for the last 3 months.
There are various monitors from various sources.
Environment Agency produces weekly updates but obviously not real-time which may be what you need?
These are really interesting though:

So much to reflect on from Oxford Farming Conference.
The highlight had to be chairing the debate at the @ox.ac.uk Oxford Student Union with these great folk.
Thank you so much Jude Capper, Rob Havard , Colin Ferguson and henrydimbleby.bsky.social
A brilliant evening of debate and laughter.

If you boil the faults of our diet & food systems down to βeat animalsβ or βdonβt eat animalsβ; then perhaps not.
It will though, exacerbate other failings in our diet and the food system and the end result could be a lot worse.
We need a proper root and branch overhaul of our broken food system

Water companies fined just Β£2 for rule breaking despite record sewage
Ofwat has been accused of not acting quickly enough to issue fines against water companies for sewage dumping
Extraordinary @theipaper piece: Ofwat has fined water companies a total of...Β£2 since 2021 for breaching regulations.
βFailure to regulate has contributed to catastrophic underinvestment in our sewage infrastructure & destruction of our rivers." (Nick Measham)

The @ffc-commission.bsky.social tend to use βFood Sustainabilityβ as a measure which I think is far more useful and balanced.
Ie can we feed ourselves enough of the right type of food without trashing the place or trashing everywhere else.

I sort of agree but I think people sharpen up on all sides if everything is laid bare in the open.
My point really relates to allowing land to be used to avoid roads and/or connect other routes under paid, permissible access.

Genuine question from a non-Londoner; for all his faults, did Boris deliver on much of this early progress? Was it in plan while he was mayor? He was certainly (apparently) a champion for cycling infra. Has it tailed off since?

But it canβt be for free.
Nobody will give up rights to land for nothing; but it shouldnβt be a ransoms cost.
A fair price for reasonable access would be a brilliant stewardship option, easy and quick to deliver.
This should be our target and we should ALL be part of the discussion.

There really is a strong case for better public access, but there are significant maintenance costs to that which should be properly costed and provided for.
Safe access to the countryside is vital for people to buy in to what goes on across farmland & presents an opportunity for land managers.2/3

Campaigners call for right to roam on edges of private farmland in England
Group says people in rural areas have to walk on roads without pavement, which can be very dangerous
www.theguardian.com/environment/...
This is over simplistic but I actually agree in principle.
I think farmland should provide alternative access to, say, busy roads, but farmers/land managers should be paid a proper compensatory payment to cover loss of use costs and things like fencing costs.1/3
