It has such an attitude!

After a week like the one I had, some moody (but simple) stitching is exactly what I need.

My First Tour de Fleece is a wrap! 🐑💫
I spun 6 oz of a Fossil Fibers gradient on the drop spindle, and started this beautiful BFL braid on my spinning wheel. 🧶

I split this braid into 14(ish?) looooong strips to experiment with shorter color repeats.

Oh interesting! Do you wind the single into the ball or do you chain it and wind it up (then add twist from the ball)?

Of COURSE we need to keep those singles under tension until they are plied! And there is no concern for compression of fibers over time because it won’t spend long in its ply-ball state.

Anyway, I learned a thing!

I might finish this 6oz fade of BDL from Fossil Fibers today! 🧶

When hand winding a ball of yarn, it is super important not to wind too tight - we want that squwishy factor and could actually compress our yarn so much we change the gauge if we don’t have it!

The plying-ball on the other hand needs to be wound tight af 🤣

My issues were based in lack of experience and technique that created a propensity for tangles. 🧶

I would love for input (validation or correction!) from more seasoned yarn spinners!

I used to be seriously anti-plying-ball for use in spinning a 2 ply yarn on a drop spindle, but over the course of this TdF, here is what I’ve learned:

Hurray! I am having such fun watching this sweater grow!
