Looking at this on the satellite view on Apple Maps, I think this looks more extreme because of the telephoto lens.

Shrewsbury has a mixture of upper and lower-quadrant but, yes, I think most if not all other remaining locations have either one or the other, not both.
TfW DMU 197125 passes a cleared lower-quadrant semaphore as it nears Pembrey & Burry Port station working a slightly-delayed 2B65 Cardiff Central to Pembroke Dock. On the left, in the middle distance, by the level crossing, is the signal box.

Yes (see alt text).
TfW DMU 197120 passes Dorrington with a very late working of 1V97 from Manchester Piccadilly cut short to Cardiff Central. Note the curious mix of upper and lower-quadrant semaphore signals.

Led by DRS Class 88 - 88009 - with Class 68 - 68004 at the rear, a nuclear waste train passes the cleared semaphores at manually-worked Limestone Hall Level Crossing. The crossing operator is highly visible in his high-vis.

Heather, characteristic of Scotland.
A pair of fairly new semaphore signals - the top one labelled DH12 - on the Dudding Hill line through north-west London.
Semaphore signal ACW29 - evidently fairly recently replaced - gleams in the winter sun.
The semaphores on the signal gantry at Neasden Junction. Two are numbered - NJ23 and NJ19; the distant is not. NJ19 - top right - is set to clear, just.
A fairly new semaphore signal stands at clear (presumably because the box was switched out when the photo was taken) in the area controlled by Neasden Junction signal box. Two labels make it doubly clear this is signal NJ5.
That will presumably spell the end for the lineβs fine array of semaphore signals.

On a sunny winterβs day, Greater Anglia bi-mode 755409 crosses the points just as it arrives at Acle station working 2P19 Great Yarmouth to Norwich. Just beyond, the cleared semaphore permitting its entry into the station section can be seen. On the left, a tall semaphore at the end of the other platform is looking rather dilapidated; its replacement is bagged up just in front of it.

TfW DVT 82225 is seen leading 1V18 Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central as it approaches Craven Arms. Class 67 - 67014 - was providing the power. The distinctly utilitarian signal box is behind it. Two semaphores stand on the opposite track; another is visible behind the signal box.

Semaphore signal S31 at Shildon, with an unusual (and rather grubby) plastic cover on the lenses. These semaphores have since been removed and replaced with colour lights.

Northern DMU 195120 passes a cleared semaphore as it departs Ulverston working 1C55 Manchester Airport to Barrow-in-Furness. The bare canopy supports on the disused part of the platform stand starkly against the sky.

Better a Pacer running a semi-regular service than the current schedule though, surely!
A photo of a now-very-rare train arriving.
Indeed. I tried to go back to take another photo not that long ago and of course the station was locked shut on account of its token service. I think when I took the photo below there was a slightly more regular schedule.
Northern DMU 156438 is just about to pass a cleared semaphore signal as it approaches Prudhoe station working 2N12 Carlisle to Whitby.
