This is one of the most scathing essays I've had the pleasure of reading β€” now if we could just force every university administrator and trustee on the planet to read it (god knows really taking it in may be too much to ask of such people)

Yeah, that's called a search result. You know, something your company used to be good at producing?

No one wants your stupid AI overviews and no one wants your stupid AI email search.

Just. Fuck. Off.

I'm reading Sense and Sensibility in German and struggling because I'm not sure how much of what I'm understanding is genuinely skill-based (my German is only B2) and how much comes from having practically memorized the book after reading it 10+ times in English πŸ˜‚

(our town's official NYE event takes place less than 100 feet from our apartment and most years we wake up to debris from the fireworks all over our balcony and window sills β€” I'm constantly worried that one of the windows will be blown out the way they set this shit off so close)

I like a lot of things about Germany, but the fireworks obsession is *not* one of them. It's 10pm and our entire building is shaking from what sounds like actual bombs going off just a few feet away. The fact that people setting off fireworks in residential areas aren't arrested is insane to me.

Or, and hear me out, we could make having an MBA absolutely disqualifying for anyone who wants to get within a mile of academia.

Universities shouldn't even have business schools. Go do an apprenticeship if you want to learn how to run a business.

Homebound was tremendously good β€” available now on Netflix and absolutely worth your time. The entire cast (even Janhvi) impressed me to no end. Ishaan is such a presence.

DCH (and KHNH) were where he first caught my eye so I didn't come up on much of his earlier work, but Yeh Dillagi was fun (Ole Ole has always been one of my favorite of his songs). I adore him but bless, it took him a long time to develop as an actor lol...some of the early stuff is unwatchable.

I aggressively boycott all Salman Khan films so I've never watched either of them, but even without him I can't imagine I'd find them any more appealing than you did πŸ˜‚

This was an excellent read β€” I finally got around to watching DDLJ the other day after years of avoiding it and found it so cringe I didn't finish it. Raj and Baldev were each repulsive in their own ways; I don't know if there was a single redeemable male character in the entire movie.

Karlstein or a little German hobbit village?

Either way it's an incredibly charming little place :)

Calling English a 'rip-off degree' is one of the most blatant exhibitions of personal barbarism I've ever seen. You've demonstrated nothing but the poverty of your own mind.

Just started reading Yellowface (yes I live several years behind everyone else) and in the movie that plays in my head whenever I read something Athena is played by Gemma Chan. And then I learned that Gemma Chan is the same age as me, which I refuse to believe as she appears to be an ethereal 27.

We've lived in Berchtesgaden Land for over five years and somehow only made it to Ramsau last weekend. Churches and hiking and more churches.

Melvyn Bragg decides to step down from presenting In Our Time After 26 years on the programme, the legendary presenter bids farewell to the series

A huge moment -- Melvyn Bragg steps down from In Our Time after over a quarter of a century. What a programme and what a legacy! Just a model for how to make great, clever, engaging radio, and a twenty-seven-year experiment that proves there's a huge global audience for smart, scholarly programming.

Anyway, just horribly bland and charmless, utterly predictable, and full of terrible writing. 2/10

Suffered through #MyOxfordYear bc I'm a sucker for the architecture and dear lord was it ever the worst kind of badly written, totally unbelievable slop. Terrible acting and *terrible* attention to detail (surely no one's reading Edna St. Vincent Millay on the Oxford English MSt 1830-1914 strand!).
