The feature to detect and remove alpha channels is a nice touch. That’s one of the sneakiest gotcha’s when uploading to the App Store.

I am not a golfer, but the automatic swing detection sounds very interesting.
😂
I see the theme. Let me guess, the Wookiee ends up in the toilet?
That’s pretty cool.
I bounce back and forth a bit, but I’ve found if I get at least a basic design started in Sketch I’m much faster putting it together in code.
@chriswu.com might have an answer to this.
Any examples of apps with good first time experiences for VoiceOver users?
Any apps that have crafted a VoiceOver specific onboarding, rather than just making the visual onboarding accessible?
Knowing the design of your apps, I’d say you are indeed a designer. I am also not a designer, so it also didn’t take me 5 hours to design this today. Also all in @sketch.com
This app will become very angry at me.
I liked the answer to “what do we do” about irresponsibly trained and managed LLM’s. Your suggestion of the organic approach, small local models powered sustainably etc. With the genie already out of the bottle, I like that @anildash.com had some answers to problems. Another great episode!
My take is that his heart wasn’t really in the fish identifier app. He’s not a fisherman, he’s not dog-fooding the app, it’s purely gaming the ASO. Last I heard he was running Apple Search Ads on it but losing money. If that sort of game inspires you, have at it! It doesn’t interest me though.
With errors.
A friend of mine built a couple apps based off of ASO keyword popularity/opportunity. So instead of building an app then trying to find keywords, he found keywords then built the app. This is one of them. It “kind of” works, but your heart still has to be in it. apps.apple.com/us/app/fish-...
I view it as context aware Google search.
I had not heard of this game, I’ll have to check it out.
I definitely could not. I’ll queue up that video.
What are you building?
The outtake of you working tech support for your dad’s iPhone was spectacular. 😂
I’ll be at Deep Dish Swift in Chicago in April. It’ll be interesting to see the demographics of attendance, I don’t blame anyone for not coming here. I wouldn’t. I’m just hoping our democracy can hold up until the midterm elections in November.
This is why my electric bill is going up? Cool.
It’s that magical time of year when the Slices Podcast resumes before @deepdishswift.com
Oh my god you went ice fishing?! When I tell people at work where I live, that’s one of the most popular bucket list items they tell me they want to do. I grew up doing too much ice fishing. I haven’t been in a few years, but my father-in-law is probably out on a frozen lake as I type this.
Well off you go then! 😁
Your garage floor will look like this as you swap out those parts with a shit ton of miles on them. If this doesn’t stop you…do it!
Oh I see! No, not at all. 😁 But I like your thoughts on the matter. I write code because I enjoy the creative process as well as what I produce. I’m not saying I don’t use AI at all, I’ve used it for help. I just feel like its outputs are mostly trash and what we’re being sold is snake oil.
Uh oh, I'm not sure I understand the question. Am I motivated to try taking on knowledge debt? No, I am not motivated to do that. Like technical debt, knowledge debt could be a short term win, but the long term loss feels like a far greater one than technical debt.
Nice article Matt. I had to look up what the "bus factor" was. 😱I'm definitely a skeptic of AI, though I'm interested to see what people talk about/showcase this year @deepdishswift.com, I may convert. If the hype is real, we're about to accrue a whole lot of knowledge debt.
I had a Pi2 from 2014 that was running a house thermometer/humidity sensor. One day it just died and I put it in a box...there it stayed until I hatched this idea. I could not for the life of me get it to connect to wifi and I think that's why it stopped working one day. So I upgraded to a Pi5. 😆
