Starting in May 2026, the JIBC will increase each of its three police training cohorts per year, from 96 seats to 144 seats enabling the Academy to graduate up to 432 trained police recruits per year.
In addition to the approval of these two new satellite campuses, the JIBC Police Academy is further expanding training capacity to strengthen policing capacity across the province.
B.C. has approved two new satellite JIBC campuses — one in Vancouver, one in Victoria — to help municipal police departments train more recruits faster.
These sites will operate under @JIBC Police Academy oversight, with the same curriculum and standards British Columbians expect.
This coverage extends to career, volunteer, wildfire, and First Nations firefighters across the province.
When firefighters run toward danger to protect others, we have a duty to ensure they and their families are cared for.
That's why I'm proud our government is expanding presumptive cancer coverage for B.C. firefighters. Eight additional cancers will now be recognized as work-related, bringing the total to 26 — making B.C. the most comprehensive province in Canada for firefighter cancer coverage.
This week, I had the honour of meeting with firefighters from my community and across B.C. during BCPFFA day at the legislature. The courage and dedication they bring to protecting our communities is extraordinary — and it was a privilege to hear from them directly.
Wishing a joyful Holi to everyone celebrating across British Columbia and around the world.
May the festival of colours bring happiness, renewal, and time with family and friends. Happy Holi!
Holi Hai!
Communities across BC are celebrating Holi — the Festival of Colours.
This Hindu holiday marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness. Families and friends gather to share food, dance, and toss bright coloured powders in celebration.
Happy Holi!
The province is committed to using all powers at our disposal to ensure the people of Tumbler Ridge and British Columbia get the answers they deserve.
The inquest will examine how our health and public safety systems responded, how individuals in crisis are identified and supported, the unique challenges facing rural communities, and the role of harmful online content. It will be independent, evidence-based, and public.
B.C.'s Chief Coroner has directed a formal inquest into the deaths at Tumbler Ridge. This is an important step toward the answers that families and this community deserve.
I thank my colleague George Anderson for his powerful statement on the importance of preserving the sanctity of the human rights code in British Columbia and in the Legislature.
Drive focused. Drive safe. #ItCanWaitBC
March is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Every year, approximately 80 lives are lost to distracted driving. Lives that could be saved if drivers simply put down the phone. Behind every number is a family, a friend, a community left behind. Your message, your notification, your call can wait.
To every officer and agency involved in B.C., Alberta, and across Canada — thank you.
Together, will find those responsible and we will hold them accountable.

I want to thank BC RCMP, Burnaby RCMP, Vancouver Police and CFSEU-BC for their collaboration on this investigation. Human trafficking crosses borders and jurisdictions — so must our response.
Today, BC's Counter Human Trafficking Unit secured six charges against a Vancouver-based individual accused of trafficking a victim across BC and Ontario. This is exactly the work B.C.’s new unit was built to do.
If you have information that may be relevant to this investigation, please contact your local police of jurisdiction.
This work was supported by the Province's Special Investigation and Targeted Enforcement (SITE) program, which gives police the resources they need to pursue exactly these kinds of complex, cross-jurisdictional cases.
@RidgeRCMP, @WestVanPolice, and @Surreyps moved quickly, shared information, and brought a dangerous suspect into custody — protecting victims and preventing further harm. I commend every officer involved in this investigation.
Fourteen charges. Three jurisdictions. One coordinated investigation. Today's result in the Lower Mainland is a powerful example of what our police agencies accomplish when they work together across municipal borders.
It was an honour to speak at the Long Service Awards where we celebrated an extraordinary group of people — individuals whose dedication, professionalism, and commitment have helped shape and strengthen British Columbia over many decades.
Criminals should not be able to misuse refugee processes to avoid removal from Canada.
We are also opening the Community Advisory Group on extortion to public input — because the people most affected deserve to be heard and to help shape our path forward. Visit stopextortion.ca to share your voice.
I've written to the federal Minister of Public Safety and Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Veterans Affairs urging swift passage of Bill C-12 to close the immigration loopholes organized crime is exploiting to evade justice.
Extortion causes real fear for families and businesses across B.C. and urgent action is needed to combat this crisis.
