The message that this sends is that if you don't or can't drive then Labour does not care about you.
Hiking train and bus fares whilst keeping fuel duty frozen (so down in real terms) just reinforces that message.
At least we expected this from the Tories. I expected better. Disappointed

This sort of thing feels so sensible. A programme in France to retrofit rural roads so there is a bike path running alongside them. In this case to the local hospital

The first year of the Welsh 20mph switch are in.

🟒100 fewer dead or seriously injured
🟒26% fewer injured
🟒The lowest 3 month casualty figure since records began 46 years ago

These aren't just figures on a page. They're real people, real families, real lives saved.

Greater Manchester's clean air plan a let down say campaigners Campaign groups fear a plan to cut air pollution in Greater Manchester does not go far enough.

We are so disappointed with the #GreaterManchester Clean Air Plan. It won’t deliver #CleanAir, & the actions include new funding for diesel buses! This is despite NOx emissions from vans rising over the past 10 years. @heidialexander.bsky.social @andyburnham.bsky.social: much more needs to be done.

Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one? The anti-tobacco playbook could help turn the US public against their beloved oversized cars.

Like smoking a cigarette, driving a giant SUV/pickup endangers anyone nearby.

The narrative power of secondhand smoke galvanized the anti-tobacco movement in the 1980s – and it could do the same for car bloat today.

Bus fare cap: Passengers in England face Β£1 rise - BBC News One leading lobby group said it would result in a "costly start" to 2025 for many bus passengers.

🚌 For many people, #BusFares have risen by 50% from the start of 2026.

πŸš„ Later this year, rail fare prices are also due to increase.

❄️ But this new Labour government has decided to continue the Conservative policy of freezing fuel duty - protecting the most wealthy from increased transport costs.

17-year-long Scottish study of 82,000+ adults finds commuting by bike reduces your risk of:
β€’ early death
β€’ hospitalisation for any reason
β€’ cardiovascular disease
β€’ cancer mortality
β€’ treatment for mental health problems.

Yeah, but those LTNs and bike lanes are *really* annoying.

β€˜Entrenched car culture’ leaves millions of Britons in transport poverty Study finds drivers spending up to a fifth of pre-tax income on running a car as lack of infrastructure deters people from cycling

πŸ’Έ Millions of people in the UK can't afford to own cars, or can't drive for whatever reason.

πŸ›‘ The lack of non-car options means they are trapped around where they live.

🚍 Getting around needs to more affordable, which means less focus on private cars.

Rural cycling: Lives will be lost without better routes, MP warns An Oxfordshire MP warns of the

A valuable Westminster Hall debate on rural cycling infrastructure.

@freddievanmierlomp.bsky.social says the government should β€œcommit to invest in safe off-road cycling routes and segregated cycle lanes in rural areas”. He’s right.

The NCN & local networks both need long term investment plans.

This is fantastic news πŸ‘πŸΌ

It makes such a difference having the flexibility to go for a few drinks after work, even though you’ve cycled in, because you can just put your bike on the tram πŸšƒπŸš²

Thank you to everyone at @walkridegm.org.uk who worked so hard to make this happen ❀️

Congratulations to everyone involved with the St Thomas' School Street!

Now that Stockport has the powers, it's time to make this permanent with ANPR cameras.

As transport sec Louise Haigh
-resolved the industrial dispute on the railways
-was proceeding with rail public ownership
-spoke clearly on P&O
-gave priority to buses & opposed removal of the Β£2 cap
For her approach she attracted hostility from the right. It’s a backward development to lose her

I love cycling. If I'm ever killed by a motorist; whether through negligence, weakness, or their own deliberate fault... I hope no one says I died doing what I loved. Instead let people say I was interrupted doing what I loved, and killed by a motorist.

I haaaaate this section. Such a shame as you’d think there’d be an easy link from the Heatons to Tesco and Reddish Vale.

Used to do it regularly, but couldn’t get up the hill with my shopping once pregnancy fatigue kicked in πŸ˜” (imagine it puts lots of people off)

This campaign is so important. These quiet, off-road routes are vital for ensuring more people can get around by bike, but are currently a nightmare for anyone using adapted cycles, cargo bikes, pushchairs and, I'm discovering, pregnant people with bad balance and full panniers!
