Have you listened to our latest episode? It features the "Love like Salt" Trope which is when a princess gets exiled for telling her father she loves him like salt. One of our inspirations came from @anooshasyed.com's retelling of the Pakistani version in her book "The Salt Princess."
Educator and #PenguinClasroomPartner Nawal Qarooni shares why @anooshasyed.com's THATβS NOT MY NAME is a must-have #BackToSchool picture book for your classroom or library! #ad
Thank you for sticking around Lorraine! Happy to have known you for so long!
Iβll be covering a lot adjacent to that topic, but what specifically are you struggling with? I can try to talk on that if I have room somewhere!
Sadly (or not, depending on your perspective) the βhustleβ is a bigger part of the job than the art itself! Whether itβs being good at networking, putting yourself out there, or always trying to better yourself.
And in case you missed it you can watch my whole career journey here:

Thatβs what got me here!!! Everyone starts off as a beginner, but the ones who succeed are the people who keep pushing and believe in themselves to get better, especially thru all the βugly artβ. Itβs a necessary part of the process haha.

Our school was small; so no internships, no visiting pros, no career pipeline like my friends had at CalArts or Sheridan. I didnβt have the same connections or resources, and it constantly felt like I was behind. SO I worked 10x harder to catch up.
I wasnβt the best. But I was consistent.
In high school, being the only one who could kind of draw, I was the βart kidβ. People would say βwow, you could work at Disney!!β But uhβ¦ my work wasnβt great lol. I was a big fish in a small pond. I wasnβt goodβ¦. But I believed in myself and it made me want to get better!
This is Lesson #1 in my new series β10 Lessons from 10 Yearsβ; a look back at the messy, non-linear career journey that got me to where I am now.
I made a video walking you through my entire TEN YEAR career journey year by year. From my first book deal to burnout, creative pivots, and figuring out how to be an artist and a parent at the same time.

Book cover of The Salt Princess retold by Anoosha Syed, part of the Everlasting Tales series, shows a princess on a horse and a princess painting by the shore.
A Pakistani #picturebook folktale from @anooshasyed.com proves that being true to oneself is always best. THE SALT PRINCESS from @harpercollinsca.bsky.social is as vibrant in its storytelling as it is in its artwork. canlitforlittlecanadians.blogspot.com/2025/04/the-...
