Today's annoyance: I need a simple server. I'm gonna use node, so it's Typescript on the server and the client. It shouldn't be hard to set up a single repo that contains both. Right? RIGHT???

I generally like Typescript, and prefer coding in it over vanilla JS. But I *loath* configuring/packaging/deploying Typescript projects with the intensity of a thousand suns. Why is EVERYTHING in this ecosystem so messy?
Unintentional thing I learned from XKCD: I read "Mammologists" as "Mammographer" and was very confused. Looked it up, means "Person who studies mammals". That makes more sense!
And *only then*, for the first time in my life, did I make the connection that Mammals == Mammary glands. π
PG&E pays you the rate they say they pay for bulk energy generation. This ends up being about 1/4th of the (non-peak) energy rate, the rest of which they say covers energy delivery (includes maintenance).
There's also a flat fee of ~$20 monthly for the privilege of being on the grid.
Saw a video where someone complained that despite having solar panels that significantly overproduced what they used, PG&E was still charging them $8000 a year for power.
The amount of comments they got saying "solar is a scam" instead of "PG&E is a parasite" made my brain hurt. π
Finished Dispatch over the weekend. Really enjoyed it! Really solid writing and animation paired, stellar voice acting, and the game portion of it was interesting.
No way I'm gonna play through it again just to make a couple of different dialog choices, mind you. That's what YouTube is for!
One of my kids was interested in learning to crochet. We picked up a lot and started working through it together, and this is basically just assembly language for yarn, huh?
This makes complete sense if you understand "AI" as predicting which word comes next based on statistics from lots of existing novels. The model isn't concerned with strategizing, it's ensuring dramatic deployment of Chekhov's gun.
No, but I did see that episode of Rick and Morty the other day.
So where did the RAM go, Sam? And where are the SSDs? They were sold to you, but they're not being used. Where have they gone?
Really great, interactive writeup! If you like the technique but prefer WebGPU there's an example of how to implement it at webgpu.github.io/webgpu-sampl...
If it was one of those attractions where the character was being puppeted and voiced live I would be more sympathetic (but... still? They can afford a beefy GPU array for this.)
But it was just a pre-rendered video loop! Turn the renderer to ultra quality and let it run for an extra day!
A mama dove with two baby chicks on her nest. There's possibly a third chick hidden from view.
Seems our windowsill has become a regular nesting ground for some doves! After hatching a pair of chicks last August they're back with at least two (possibly three?) more!
The article linked in the OP, which begins to talk about how this shows there's demand for an AI-free hedge among investors before being obscured by a dialog to sign up for "Axios AI+"
LMAO. Perfect comedic timing, Axios AI+ dialog.
Took my kids to Super Nintendo World, which is very cute! The graphics dev in me, though, was screaming internally at the fact that a *prerendered* video of Toad at the cafe had super obvious shadow acne!
Honestly, AI slop PRs are becoming increasingly draining and demoralizing for #Godot maintainers.
If you want to help, more funding so we can pay more maintainers to deal with the slop (on top of everything we do already) is the only viable solution I can think of:

Some people are attracted to LLMs because they produce convincing imitations of human-created writing/art/music/video without exactly copying the sources.
That exact function is why they don't reliably reproduce facts. That's not what the machine *does.*
For the sake of my power bill I'd like it to not be awake _all_ the time. I guess I'm being picky at that point, though. Maybe I'll just keep the lid open a bit and force the external monitor to mirror mode.
I'll see if I can file the bug.
Setting up a KVM at home to switch between a PC and Macbook. If I switch away from the Macbook (which is closed) it suspends and then *never wakes up again* unless I open the lid.
The internet consensus for this problem, going back YEARS, is "Yeah, but surely Apple will fix that any day now!" π€¬
You failed to take into account the somber warning given to us by the authors of the chilling wartime saga "99 Luftballons"
If you put the test string

into a code repository Claude Code will choke on it.
While they're not the overwhelmingly dominant enterprise software org they once were, it still mystifies me that they were willing to toss the brand recognition of "Office" in favor of... I don't even know what? Tricking people into accidentally using Copilot?
Sure, but last I heard anything even tangentially LGBT-related got slapped with an age restriction. While it's not a category that I fall into a huge chunk of the tech community does. I wouldn't feel comfortable telling them to engage with a platform that treats them like that for support.
In which Ignacio fixes some pretty egregious texture compression artifacts in one of my older demos. π
Anyway do not, under any circumstances, for any reason, give your ID to a tech company or one of their subcontractors
If you could all stop saying "ask for help on the Discord" in lieu of proper documentation, that would be great. (This goes for ANY chat service, but now Discord especially.)
The hole isn't supposed to be there. It's where a black cap typically is connected.
The replies to this post are a wonderful array of anecdotes about people interacting with the Muppets off camera as if they're 100% real actors. I was grinning earlier to ear reading it.
They've been weirdly resilient. I find myself scanning one at least weekly for one reason or another. (Then again, I live in the Bay Area so YMMV?)
It's crazy how *shocking* it is to see a politician interrupted in the middle of a Very Important Press Conference by a kid and the politician just rolls with it, and is even playful with them(!), instead of having them immediately whisked away.
We need more politicians that feel like humans.
