The show is taking a little break for the holidays. No new episode this month, but keep an eye out for a fresh one in early January!
New episode! @minzlicht.bsky.social is back and fired up about citation diversity staments. We discuss the much-criticised Nature Reviews Psychology editorial encouraging authors to include them in their articles, as well as Mickey's very problematic beer tastes. share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
Does anyone know how much it costs to publish in Nature Reviews Psychology? Their APC doesn't seem to be listed on the web anywhere.
New episode! David Tannenbaum joins the show to talk about one of Yoel's favorite papers: a massive field study of honesty in 40 countries that had some unexpected results. Also, we talk about hiking and David actually drinks two beers. share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
From this paper:
(Holy Cow! Reminds me also of how Bullshit Receptivity items can glom together!)
Very cool discussion between @yoelinbar.net and @paulbloomatyale.bsky.social on when to quit theories, usually either too soon or too late
Super relevant for criminology, where itβs rare to see any crim theory truly put to rest

Listening to the episode now and the section on cognitive dissonance pushed me to share this paper of ours: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....
Reasons to be skeptical of cognitive dissonance theory!
New episode!
@paulbloomatyale.bsky.social
interviews Yoel about when to give up on a theory, and which of his own findings he no longer believes. But it's not all doom and gloom! We also talk about findings we think are solid, and, of course, Sydney Sweeney. share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
Folks, it's time to submit your papers to PCI Psychology. Here is our invitation to you, taken from our editorial osf.io/preprints/ps...
Ha! Always happy to have you back (and I've published a PCI-RR), so definitely a fan of the concept.
New episode! Returning guest Spencer Greenberg (spencrgreenberg.bsky.social) joins the show to talk replications, what psychologist think of controversial topics, and an AI tool he developed to predict correlations between psychological traits and survey questions.

And some more on moral opposition to AI @yoelinbar.net @hellovic.bsky.social @reemayad.bsky.social @eloisecote.bsky.social @minzlicht.bsky.social

FINALLY got to chat with @yoelinbar.net about everything Jews-and-DEI. thecjn.ca/news/campus/...
New episode! UBC's Amori Mikami rejoins the show to talk to Yoel about DEI. Many prominent universities are rethinking DEI policies that once seemed unquestionable. So what is the future of DEI in higher ed, and what should it be? share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
New episode! David Pizarro (@peez.bsky.social) joins the show to talk about the concept of "purity" in moral psychology. Is there really a unified psychology of handwashing, pet-eating, and baby Jesus buttplugs, or is purity just a chimera? share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
Really proud of this new work out @psychscience.bsky.social. Led by the amazing but bluesky-less Amanda Geiser and with @deborahsmall.bsky.social.
We show that when comparing moral wrongs, people are (much) more willing to βscale upβ than to βscale downβ condemnation and punishmentβ¦

New episode!
@minzlicht.bsky.social is back to talk about cannabis research, empathic AI, and some stuff we saw at SPSP. share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
Yeah, itβs a truly obnoxious habit and people should knock it off.
Iβd guess more likely she just didnβt know who you are. But still a good illustration of the appeal to authority snobbery you see too often.
Should we care more about shrimp?

At @spspnews.bsky.social, many asked for guidelines on using LLMs in the social sciences. Our new paper in AMPPS addresses exactly that! We provide a primer for evaluating LLMs in social science research, focusing on methodological rigor, replicability, and validity: osf.io/preprints/ps...
There will be no new episode in February (mostly because of travel)--but we'll be back in March with a special guest!
In case you woke up today thinking "I really need to hear Yoel Inbar talk about a Baby-Sitters Club book"--I have some good news for you. Thanks to my old friend Esme Schaller and new friend @emilykcrandall.bsky.social for having me on!

If you are looking for a distraction, tune in to me and @yoelinbar.net chatting about a topic totally unrelated to current events.
Better late than never, itβs out! share.fireside.fm/episode/Ah1O...
January's episode will be late due to Yoel packing the wrong mic to Vancouver π€¦ββοΈ
The episode (featuring @syeducation.bsky.social) will be out by Monday the 20th. Sorry about the delay, all!

Excellent post on the lack of empirical support for stereotype threat, from someone deeply involved in the research.
Also, importantly, "stereotype threat isn't real" != "stereotypes are not threatening." These are very different claims, but the former is often taken to mean the latter.
