I second the Galloway recommendation. If you want a closer look at theory that is (even) more indebted to German media theory, you can consider Stephan Günzels Egoshooter. Or, perhaps a bit less well known, Serjoscha Wiemer's PhD thesis, Das geöffnete Intervall.
Ich glaube ja. Jedenfalls irgendwas aus dem beginnenden E-Sport Ende der 90er. Metaspiele sind allerdings ja schon in der mathematischen Spieltheorie und den entsprechenden Szenarien ein Ding (vgl. Boluk & Lemieux)
