"Nothing in the [Representation of the People] bill as it stands would stop Harborne giving as much as he likes while living half a world away."
If there's one thing to share with UK folks you know who lean/vote conservative, perhaps it's this. And it's an urgent thing to write to MPs about.
Bijzondere en zeer boeiende reflectie Esther!
Heel goed verwoord ook.๐๐ป
Doet me meteen aan 2 dingen denkenโฆ
1. Een zeer inzichtgevende droom die ik ooit had over het je verenigen met donkerder kanten van jezelf.
2. De mini-lezing die @drsurekhadavies.bsky.social gaf over haar werk mbt โMonstersโ.
Reputational damage, plus impersonation, plus violating copyright, plus ruining the information landscape.... I could go on.
PSA: Slop machines aren't reviewers. Here's another sort of class-action lawsuit that needs to happen.

An intricate octopus cut from a single piece of paper
Japanese artist Masayo Fukuda hand-cut this life-sized octopus from one sheet of paper. Known as Kirie in Japanese (translated as โcut pictureโ), the art form involves cutting intricate forms from a single sheet of white paper and then contrasting it against a black background to reveal the design.
Title page of the Whole Course of Chirurgerie by Peter Lowe. The page has been damaged over the years and a large portion of the top right hand corner is missing.
Happy #WorldBookDay!
Here's a rare 1st edition of the Whole Course of Chirurgerie (1597) by our College founder, Peter Lowe. It's the first complete treatise on surgery written in English and takes the form of a dialogue between teacher (John Cointeret) and pupil (Peter Lowe)

Women aren't gobsmacked at all. But really hoping guys finally get angry about this.
I lack the words to capture it, but ... it's just endlessly remarkable to me that so many people in our society have chosen trans kis -- TRANS KIDS, the smallest, least significant, most vulnerable demographic slice you could possibly pick -- as a repository for all their fears & insecurities.
Fabulous! A. Mechele Dickerson's THE MIDDLE-CLASS NEW DEAL from @ucpress.bsky.social is #5 on the NYT paperback nonfiction bestseller list!!!

As a parent, you are also an unmitigated piece of shit for exposing other peopleโs children to preventable diseases. I have zero time or sympathy for these people. I hope in their dotage their children sue the pants off them for their willful stupidity. Fuck these people.

Until someone works out how to get monopoly profits from renewables they are constantly going to be attacked by frightened oligarchs.
Fishtopher, a classic brown tabby cat with green eyes, laying on a large white comforter. His body is compact and curled up, but his head is slightly lifted up and looking at the camera. His ears point outward slightly, giving off a bit of an annoyed expression at being woken up.
a bit disgruntled
honestly, genuinely, if you could speak OK French and do calculus and prac-crit a poem when you were 17 you can definitely still do it today. it will take you a maximum of a handful of months to get back any of those things, and it is really joyful.
brains are not like bodies in this way.
A grim thread. I have reverted to mostly in-class assignments. The era of undergrads writing essays unsupervised on their own time is rapidly coming to a close.
The fascism is killing us, some faster than others, but nearly all of us either way.
one of the ways Trumpโs war is robbing you (if youโre alive to read this) is that news organizations that still do arts coverage are cutting their arts coverage to make room for war coverage
With Amazon down, a good reminder to buy books from actual bookstoresโnot an oligarch-owned tech behemoth that exploits its workers.
A friendly reminder that your Libro audiobook credits never expire ๐ You bought them...so why would we take them away?
