Not electric. Fire heated. Mind you this was more for the wealthy that could afford. But there was a section under tub for wood to be stored, a small space, and lit for a fire. That heated the tub. Buuuuuuuttttt some folks werent smart enough to put it out… 😬

Considering a lot of their water sources were not the most clean, i wouldnt be too surprised (nor blame them) if they did 😅 and yes! Thats true. A lot of the time those pitchers and bowls you might have seen in an “old” room was their “bathing” equipment. Theyd do exactly as you described. Perfume
Where they could sit, do their business, and it would go be carried away by the water way they built under the “toilets”.
They were more hygienic than the colonizers that came and labelled them “savages”
Actually indigenous peoples in the central and south americas bathed as well, and frequently. Some groups built tubs that could fill with water by building water ways that would lead to the tub and block/unblock when needed filling. + they had running water toilets too. Also connected to waterways
I wouldnt say they were worse. But rather more dangerous in how they went about it. I.e their toilets could gather gas and explode. Their tubs could heat water BUT they didnt turn them off and could boil in them. Not to mention the dangerous chemicals they had in beauty and care products too.
