Post-algorithm television and film is not to be trusted. It is to be reviled. It's there to generate clicks and reposts and likes.
Black & white photo of a concrete side of a somewhat dilapidated building that has graffiti written with spray paint. The graffiti reads βTime doesnβt exist Clicks exist.β
Itβs bullshit whatβs happened to the industry now that itβs run by a bunch of tech bros and accountants.
Back in the day I would have you on all my sets because you are political.
I also once did a scene with Niki Hunter where I was wearing a Nixon mask and she was G.W. Bush.
Ended up at an all female fronted metal band show tonight.
Love local shows in small intimate spaces.
AI is alive? Cool.
That means we can kill it.
Hereβs a fun one from a few years later at our alternative karaoke night we used to have here in LA.
God do I miss Ground Control.
Dug up another one of me doing some Metallica about 2 years earlier. I was way out of shape cause I was in my βpost divorce bottle of scotch a nightβ era that my now wife would help bring me out of.
You can tell my thrash vocal influences were more Testament and Kreator than Hetfield for sure.
Typebar has an essay adjacent to this, as it relates specifically to depictions of sex (or lack thereof) in commercial fiction

Iβm gonna end up on another: βbigoted against AIβ list.

The rise of the βDisney adultβ and the Mormon influence on that portion of culture would definitely be reflected in a new version.
Iβve tried over the years but so much from that era is just gone. Archive and everything doesnβt have a findable copy. Itβs like all my print era stuff in some waysβ¦ just lost to the ether.
Iβve thought about revisiting it in some form. Maybe I will.
Itβs also amazing how far my voice has come since then.

My in-laws did the same thing.
We donβt go anymore do to every bit of fun being sapped out of it. Plus, my wife worked for the company for almost 15 years and holds some resentment to them.
No, thatβs at Floridas Magic Kingdom, but I havenβt been there since 2011
And yeah⦠there was a lot in there about spectacle, and the aesthetics of an idealized past.
And thatβs how that side gig ended.

Well, years later I followed it up with a piece on the true horrors of what Walt originally had in mind for his βCity of Tomorrowβ, the ideological underpinnings for it, and the desire of the rich to make us all into their vassals who own nothing.
Soβ¦ back in the 2000βs I had started a side gig writing about theme parks. I liked delving into the more esoteric aspects of them like analyzing Pirates of the Caribbean as a primer on mystery religions. But, I also wrote a long piece about EPCOT Center and how it became outdated due to ourβ¦

As true now as it was 35 years ago.
My favorite new album of the weekβ¦
Vreid - The Skies Turn Black
Musically gorgeous with a mix of vocal styles (and musical styles) that really creates atmosphere⦠the track with Djerv is an obvious standout, but the whole album is a delight.
Temple of Void - The Crawl
Doomy melodic death with depth in the lyrics. I would heap more praise on this if that Vreid album wasnβt released this week.
