It's true.

The hard thing with masking is that EVENTUALLY it gets too exhausting.

Sometimes earlier, with a burnout. Sometimes later, as we age and become more tired. I hit that early because of arthritis, but still masked some in public. Now? WYSIWYG, I guess. I miss those who don't like me, but I like me.

... Which is very sad, really, because I have found, working with brilliant academics, authors, teachers, and other "formerly gifted kids," that MOST of us (especially if musicians or theater kids🤣) fall someplace on the ADHD/ASD/AUDHD spectrum, and might not know until/if we have kids. 🤷‍♀️

I get it! I'm 50, and figured out the ASD part for me at the same time as searching for answers for my kid. I basically read that CAT-Q test and burst out laughing, because OH, LOOK, IT'S ME AS A KID.

irony: my exbf HAS a PhD in ed, but probably more hands on experience with the stigma of ASD
