Great to see renewed interest in #AssassinsCreedUnity following the new 60fps patch.
If you’re curious about some of the tech behind it— global illumination and early GPU-driven pipeline —I shared a few details in my GDC talk. youtu.be/yj5pYktC3X8?...

It feels like that description implies an asymmetry - that the "distribution" can only ever be descriptive, not constructive - and relies on an assumption that the semantic content is largely orthogonal to the form.

To me that begs the question of what information the text is supposed to contain?

D3D12 Opacity Micromaps - DirectX Developer Blog DirectX Raytracing (DXR) now supports Opacity Micromaps (OMMs), enabling hardware to handle alpha tested geometry more efficiently than relying only on costly AnyHit shader invocations. At GDC 2025 DX...

Very excited to see Opacity Micromaps getting full support in Direct3D 12 today!

They are basically a "must have" for performant ray-intersection of dense foliage scenes.

Random thing I learned this morning:

The word "caustic" comes from the Latin "causticus", which means "burning".

A figure with hooked staff and red windswept cloak rides on the back of a bee flying across a yellow desert background toward a makeshift taxi stand. The platform extending from a rocky outcrop appears derelict, but hooded figures wait atop it and along the stairs leading up. Boards and other exposed structure jut out from the underside. The line of commuters extends down to the rocks where a wooden sign rises to mark the route.

Acrylic on Gessobord - 12" x 16"

The last painting I used this palette for, HARBINGER, had a lot of yellows in it. When I finished, I covered the palette with a yellow ochre gesso so I could use it again. 1/4

I'd like to share @daqilin.bsky.social and I co-authored a chapter in the latest GPU Zen 4 book.

We cover the engineering details of implementing ReSTIR GI & PT in UE5's NvRTX branch, adopted in NVIDIA's Zorah project showcased at CES and GDC last year.

The book is now available on Amazon.

To put it another way, I agree with you that it is not a coherent sales pitch; however, to me the incoherence disarms the sincerity rather than supports it. They are going to need to break one way or the other.

Maybe it's the third? But then throwing your hands up and saying "Well here's hoping we're not committing a crime against humanity! That'll be $200/mo" kind of undercuts the idea that they are taking the moral dilemma seriously.

15.02.2026 22:05 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 1

I kind of disagree; I think it's tautologically true.

It's either
- "We think this is ethically monstrous and don't care"
- "We don't actually think this is a real problem"
- "There's a real ethical hazard here and we don't know how to navigate it"

I have a theory that this was intentional because they believed the cold would suppress public protests and turnout. The planned for Grandfather Frost, but they thought he would be on their side.
