I've whittled myself down to Bluesky because other platforms are so much worse. But they also never worked when I was there.

Algorithms are ridiculous. You're literally at the mercy of a random string of code with no actual intelligence.

The biggest roadblock is probably time.

So many hours go into studying marketing, designing graphics, and dispensing info there's no time left for ACTUAL WRITING!

It's like you need a backlog of finished work to even THINK about marketing. And it stops while you beg people to read.
