Out today in paperback, this @chuckwendig.bsky.social novel is bizarre in all the right ways. Fundamentally a story of the perils of both isolation & conformity (both at the same time!), this book is a genuine page-turner. A creepy must-read. #booksky @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social

A blunt, in-your-face collection of stories of loneliness & survival. Yet, @legroff.bsky.social never once slips into the β€œpity ditch,” & neither should the reader. This is what striving to live looks like, when answers aren’t easy. A+ #booksky @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social

1938 Book Voted β€˜Best Novel of the Century’ is Now Free on Amazon The 1938 classic mystery, "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier, named the best novel of the century, and later adapted by Alfred Hitchcock, is now free on Amazon.

I genuinely enjoyed du Maurier’s short story collection, β€œDon’t Look Now.” I’ll have to try to fit this into my reading list. #booksky

You sound smug about it. Your old party affiliation seeping through?

Kind of the opposite, to be honest. I dislike Kes more and more as I get older πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

β€˜She dared to be difficult’: How Toni Morrison shaped the way we think The Beloved author’s refusal to conform made her a hero to many – and the only black female writer to have won a Nobel prize in literature

Her difficulty made her one of the greatest U.S. authors ever.

My newest reading challenge is to read all the Women’s Prize for Fiction winners. Thus far, gold medals across the board. From gothic to race to queer love to fantasy, these books have all knocked my socks off. Highly recommend all four. #booksky @madelinemiller.bsky.social

An incredibly powerful story of resilience in the face of evil & oppression. W/ these interconnected narratives, @claycane.bsky.social forces us to see slavery w/out β€œhistory’s” whitewashing. Yet, for all the suffering, there are also agency & justice, & happy endings long denied. #booksky

Out this week (1-27), Saunders’ latest is β€œA Christmas Carol” for the 21st century, in which we are all Tiny Tim to the protagonist’s Scrooge. What purpose does a deathbed conversion serveβ€”& what does repentance look likeβ€”when you’ve bought into your own lies? A must-read. #booksky

Out this week, @tkingfisher.com’s latest release is a gem of a book! When 9 goblin soldiers find themselves deep in enemy territory, facing dangerous magic, they must rely on their endearing quirks & an elven Dr. Dolittle. You’ll never think poorly of goblins again πŸ’› @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social

This isn’t my standard type of review, but I have to say something about this book. I read it in a single sitting today, & then simply sat thinking about it for several minutes after. I read a lot, & the memory of many of those books has faded, but I know this one never will. Read it! #booksky

I was lucky enough to read a lot of amazing books this year, but for a β€œYear-In-Review” post, it has to be all about Thomas Olde Heuvelt. He is the Millennial generation’s @stephenking.bsky.social. Fans of horror are privileged to live in the same world as him. #booksky @huxleyandhiro.bsky.social

I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a snob about movie tie-in covers, but this one is a winner! Pretty colors, a pretty man, and a Ken in space! πŸš€ πŸ‘½ An incredible book by @andyweir19.bsky.social, I hope the movie does it justice! Get your copy @captainbluehen.bsky.social! #booksky

Rob Reiner was one of those rare directors who could turn a novel into a movie and not only respect the source material, but even elevate it. From King’s β€œThe Body” (β€œStand By Me”) to β€œThe Princess Bride” and beyond, this man was a master. Rest In Peace.
