Lol I did the Proud Lilywhites score prediction and asked my kid if he wanted a go. 0-1 to Palace he said, no hesitation. At least we're teaching our kids the real knowledge

Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnishβed with car-related fatalities.
βHelsinki hasnβt registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past yearβ¦Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a carβs speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinkiβs residential areas and city center in 2021.β

If Reform had won, Labour's statement would be that this result is a stark reminder we need to listen and learn from voters who rightly feel betrayed by modern politics.
But the Greens won by a comfortable margin, so it's: these voters are stupid and also sinister and, ugh, Muslims

One senior Labour strategist said they were "aghast" at Starmer's media clips. βPeople turn out against us in droves and they are extremist? I do not think anyone believes that the Greens are extremists.β Another said: βHe isnβt even close to getting it, unfortunately.β #GoGreen

Heartening in a way because Goodwin's petulant tantrums this morning are the kind of things you might say to consolidate a fringe extremist base when what Reform clearly wanted from this by-election was to complete its transition to being a mainstream party for normal people.

Like Trump and other populist reactionaries, Reform is turning electoral defeat into an opportunity to recruit and incubate a small but hardened core of wilfully gullible supporters united around the conspiratorial myth of their own persecution. They say their loss is *why* you should support them.

Yeah this exactly. UKIP needed academic cover to give a veneer of legitimacy and credibility, and I think this is an underestimated turning point for Reform whether to go, like Goodwin, full Trump. Maybe depends on how Russian intelligence reckons the next election goes in this country (seriously)

Youβd have to have a heart of stone not to feel for Matt Goodwin, a populist who forgot about the popularity bit, and who now will return south without as much as a REF impact case study to show for his efforts.

If the Labour party's worst nightmare is Greens win, Reform second rather than the other way round, that's exactly why they're in third place and people don't like them

Reform were closer to coming third than winning the seat. The BBC and the rest of the media and billionaire backed dodgy polling companies will be gutted, as this shows that despite their efforts, the Reform bubble may have burst before it got fully inflated.
