It's just that remaking that type of mod for DT without losing one's sanity when having to keep up with updates requires tooling that simply doesn't exist atm, and that takes an ungodly amount of work to build (orders of magnitude more than the mod itself would take once the tools will be there)
It will come back... Eventually™️
(and maybe under another name that's simpler to remember/write and that better reflects the fact that it's not just an "ink of light" anymore)

I went for the safest design (and it errs a bit *too much* on the side of safety tbh, forbidding things that would be legal - as you can see by not being able to save some vanilla materials as-is on the grounds that the editor can't prove the thing safe)

In a nutshell, getting the right texture slots into a material in Penumbra = switching that material to the shader that will use these texture slots
Penumbra won't let you add/remove texture slots by hand, this is very unsafe (shader wants texture but slot doesn't exist in material = instant crash)
What doesn't work when trying to do it in Penumbra?
This is a bg.shpk material, it will NOT work as-is on a minion, you have to adapt it to character.shpk or whichever character shader suits the look you want
Have you tried copying the path and looking at the file in Penumbra?
