I have just been obsessively watching Traitors and House of villians because watching random reality tv stars fight is more peaceful than *gestures around* all of this
I just learned he digs cDc and as the official sinfluencer and welcome wagon of the herd, I gotta represent
Hey @wilwheaton.net!
When you come to Huntsville for the pop culture convention in April, you should bring your cDc book- I have a sticker for it, as well as some cult of the dead cow swag for you!
K-pod Billionaire Hunters?
Oh yeah I love it
Shame on Fortinet
They tied their engineers bonuses to their sales team, resulting in NO bonuses to their technical workers
Then had the NERVE to pour salt in the wound by sending a phishing test email about 2025 holiday bonuses.
GROSS.
Woohoo. New book. Well, the second copy of this book but this one is updated. My old copy will be donated to my lending library I have in front of my house. Thank you @medus4.com and @cultdeadcow.com for an awesome read.

It's about 80-100% of something we call HDP.

And well, it's pretty much what it sounds like. A privacy focused app framework built for humans, by humans. No vibe coding, VCs or profit motives.

The Kindle version of Cult of the Dead Cow has also been updated with my additions on current #hacktivism, matching the new paperback and audio. Anyway here is a photo I took of early cDc stalwart @betoorourke.bsky.social with cDcβs @adamjodonnell.bsky.social and L0pht fellow traveler @stamos.org.
Because Veilid itself had no projected capital (by design!), and should be pretty monetary self sufficient once it's finished, everyone involved is working on it during their off-hours.
But we are inviting everyone who wants to help to join in- whether it's documentation, code, marketing, etc
Hi! I'm one of the founders of Veilid.
I'll echo what others are saying here- what we are building is incredible, it has the potential to reinvent the standard of online privacy and communication, but it's still not quite ready for widespread usage. However, everyone and anyone can help!!
I'm going to start live-coding Veilid on a more regular basis as we march toward a 1.0.0 release.
If anyone wants to join our Discord and follow along, feel free, the invite is here:
veilid.com/discord
And the live coding channel is specifically here:

Blasphemy
it's like putting up a single screen door along an entire countries wide open border- it's only going to get used by people who want to use doors, and it can be booby trapped to hurt those who use it legitimately.
It seems like a good idea at first glance- however, the filter could absolutely be used to prevent ANY content from being shared, whether it's an unflattering photo, a meme, or breaking news.
And while censorship is one concern- it's also very easy to mitigate the filter if you know it exists.
They've implemented an image hash filter which allows users to add images. It prevents upload of media deemed "private or intimate", but has no oversight or means to oversee what images are added to the filter. So it could censor legitimate content
The sad truth is that you can't solve human problems with tech- and you can't always solve tech problems with humans. Nuance doesn't translate.
There's ways around this gap, but they're not easy to find a balance with. There's no single step solution for this.
But- to be fair, they made an honest try at it, which is more than most platforms, and used literally the only org that is fighting this form of abuse using tech.
They're overthinking this, but I think the Bluesky team is under a microscope here, and so ofc they're overthinking it.
Sigh.
Yes, I know about the moderation choices Bluesky has been making regarding NCP/NCII.
Yes, I know about the massive flaws and potential for abuse that their decisions have.
Happy Thanksgiving to those in America!
And to the rest of the world, Happy Thursday!
This year I am grateful for my team at the Veilid Foundation and all the @veilid.com contributors and supporters.
2026 is going to be a lot of work, but we got this, fam!
We are doing the thing.

@medus4.com gave me the coolest anniversary gift. Itβs already getting use as a vocals warm up tool for step-kiddo-the-youngerβs middle school theater performance.
This week has been pure hell and it's only Tuesday. I'm stressed, depressed, and want to curl into a ball and disappear.
