Analysis | Congress thinks the public is way more conservative than it actually is. Deep-pocketed lobbyists are to blame, according to new research. Republican legislative aides have a particularly distorted view of public opinion, new research finds.

A widely discussed analysis reported in the Washington Post (2018) found congressional staffers systematically believe their constituents support more conservative policies than polling shows β€” partly because lawmakers mostly hear from wealthy donors & organized lobby groups.

Public opinion is consistently left of Congress in:
β€’ Raising minimum wage well above the federal level
β€’ National healthcare
β€’ Universal background checks for guns ~85–90% support
β€’ Higher taxes on the rich

Research shows Congress misperceives voters as more conservative than they are.

Not only is it true, it's well documented by political scientists, journalists, analysts, etc.

C. Ellis & J. Stimson’s Ideology in America (2012) shows voters are often β€œsymbolically conservative but operationally liberal”: they identify as conservative/moderate but support left-leaning policies.

Doesn't require a lot of sleep, Mike? Like sleepy Joe you mean? Snoring Donald does it on camera several times per week, but why should we believe our own lyin' eyes?

Thanks for fighting Trump in this Senator. Many of us would be happier if you didn't vote WITH Trump as often as you do.

This is the myth of the American Dream. Something like 35% of households in the 1960s and 1970s could survive on one income. That's not nothing compared to the widespread poverty in the 1930s through the mid-forties. But the idea that the streets were paved with pork chops is ridiculous. And yet...

How does it feel to be voted out of office for being a piece of shit?

I want someone, anyone at all, to ask Ogles this. How fast can we arrange it?

They never have been moderate. Study after study for decades shows US citizens far to the left of their representatives in Congress when asked about policy initiatives.

When asked about political identity it's a different story because propaganda works on an emotional level.

A Brief History of America’s Involvement in Iran - The American Prospect For many younger Americans, this is the first U.S. war in the Middle East. Here’s how we got here.

I'm back from a week off, anything happen while I was away?
Oh yeah, that. Well fortunately Naomi Bethune has supplied for me an entire history of U.S. intervention in Iran. Something to share with your underinformed friends:

Seven US Regime Change Wars, Ranked by Disastrousness Trump has killed Iran's supreme leader and is demanding 'unconditional surrender.' But history tells us that US-led regime change efforts abroad almost never bring positive results.

"Many Americans seem to have forgotten just how catastrophic US regime change wars have been in the past. So, with the risk of history repeating itself once again, here is Zeteo’s list of seven of the US’s most disastrous attempts at regime change, ranked"

The inmate claimed the whole wing overheard the exchange.

Later, after learning Epstein had died, he said inmates said β€œMiss Noel killed Jeffrey.” (2/2)

Witness testimony in an FBI file isn't proof, it's evidence though & contributes to probable cause.

He heard an officer say β€œDudes, you killed that dude.”

A female guard replied β€œIf he is dead, we’re going to cover it up & he’s going to have an alibi -- my officers,” the FBI notes said. (1/2)

And fewer probably who know the coup was primarily protecting the interests of British Patroleum because Mosadeq had the crazy idea that the oil revenues should benefit the people of Iran.

History has shown the regime change plan trotted out by every GOP administration - we decapitate the leadership, and then it's on the people to rise up - has NEVER happened even once.

(3/3) This is exactly the ethos of the US mafia figures from the 1970s onward. β€œEveryone is venal, everyone is a criminal, and we’re just the honest, real people who accept reality and serve that depravity.”

The oligarchy owns reality. They stole it fair and square. We all watched it happen and half of us have already memory holed it.

I was thinking more about the soldiers actually doing the heavy lifting. The dead ones, primarily.

But, yeah, I take your point. Thing is with the orange stain; he won't remember tomorrow that he had that beautiful picnic today.

Another good one is Anthony Bourdain in Iran.
Particularly the part where kids are in a parking lot around muscle cars eating pizza.

There is no fundamental difference on a personal level.

"Incursion"! What you are presiding over is an incursion. Not an "excursion" you fucking donut. It's an excursion when those involved enjoy themselves. I know SecDeath Hegseth is enjoying himself and JD Vance is probably enjoying his sofa, but they're just there to do Public Relations, no?

I want to just scream all day, every day until the midterms when the blue wave sweeps the Nazis out of office across the nation. And spend the next six years watching the Dems move right again and shoot themselves (and the rest of us) right in the ass while singing, "at least we aren't fascists."
