Hey letโs keep this going!

"Bicycle Face"
-exploring the relationship between women & bicycles, paying tribute to womenโs freedom.
Its starting point is a historical episode from the late 19th century, when a so-called โโbicycle faceโ was invented to discourage women from riding.
I wrote about how the US and Israel carried out an attack on an Iranian girls school on par with the OKC bombing and US media relegated it to a back page story. No stand alone evening news segments, no front page stories, it made A11 in the NYT then everyone moved on.
My university received a few years ago the promise of the largest single gift to a public university in U.S. history. It was equivalent to 12 hours of bombing Iran.
High levels of destruction seen in Beirut today after a wave of Israeli strikes targeted the south of the city.

In an unprecedented move, according to two of the sources, the army also decided during the first weeks of the war that, for every junior Hamas operative that Lavender marked, it was permissible to kill up to 15 or 20 civilians; in the past, the military did not authorize any โcollateral damageโ during assassinations of low-ranking militants. The sources added that, in the event that the target was a senior Hamas official with the rank of battalion or brigade commander, the army on several occasions authorized the killing of more than 100 civilians in the assassination of a single commander.
Moreover, the Israeli army systematically attacked the targeted individuals while they were in their homes โ usually at night while their whole families were present โ rather than during the course of military activity. According to the sources, this was because, from what they regarded as an intelligence standpoint, it was easier to locate the individuals in their private houses. Additional automated systems, including one called โWhereโs Daddy?โ also revealed here for the first time, were used specifically to track the targeted individuals and carry out bombings when they had entered their familyโs residences.
During the early stages of the war, the army gave sweeping approval for officers to adopt Lavenderโs kill lists, with no requirement to thoroughly check why the machine made those choices or to examine the raw intelligence data on which they were based. One source stated that human personnel often served only as a โrubber stampโ for the machineโs decisions, adding that, normally, they would personally devote only about โ20 secondsโ to each target before authorizing a bombing โ just to make sure the Lavender-marked target is male. This was despite knowing that the system makes what are regarded as โerrorsโ in approximately 10 percent of cases, and is known to occasionally mark individuals who have merely a loose connection to militant groups, or no connection at all
developed an artificial intelligence-based program known as โLavender,โ unveiled here for the first time. According to six Israeli intelligence officers, who have all served in the army during the current war on the Gaza Strip and had first-hand involvement with the use of AI to generate targets for assassination, Lavender has played a central role in the unprecedented bombing of Palestinians, especially during the early stages of the war. In fact, according to the sources, its influence on the militaryโs operations was such that they essentially treated the outputs of the AI machine โas if it were a human decision.โ
Rightly, there is a lot of discussion about US Military and Anthropic in the context of Iran, but a lot of it seems to unfold in amnesia of Israel's use of algorithmic targeting systems "Lavender," "Gospel," and "Where's Daddy" in Gaza.

Algorithmic targeting systems are the perfect tools to obliterate rules of engagement, as humans who are considered bottlenecks to decision making,"rubber stamp" machine decisions after seconds of deliberation, & acceptable level of collateral damage is increased to reflect expanded ability to kill.

Fun note on this article, this company uses comfyUI, which boasts a collection of some of the most unethical and exploitative GenAi models.
This whole deal is Netflix normalizing the exploitation of the creative workersโwhose works GenAi companies stole to train their modelsโ they hope to replace.
Today the Israelis ordered the evacuation of the southern suburbs of Beirut. This included a couple Palestinian refugee camps. People who were displaced during the Nakba or in 67, settled in Beirut and now their grand/great grandchildren are once again displaced.

Both predictable and terrifying the way gen ai images and narratives about ai systemsโ precision are manipulated towards normalizing atrocities.

The OSMP has added Israeli 2,000-pound-class air-delivered bombs with distinct red and yellow markings.
This suggests the munitions likely contain an incendiary and high-explosive payload. The best known of these is the BLU-119/B CrashPAD which contains white phosphorous.
