This is true. I have had beginners struggle to explain loops and variables, and have even had engineers fail interviews even when I allowed the use of AI because they didn’t know how to run the script it made.

I have also seen the productivity nose dive when introducing these tools.

Can officially say that I am writing book 2, and about 5k words in now. Feels good.

Just want to also mention, that I appreciate everyone's support on Containment and it is crazy to see folks outside of friends and family picking the book up and reaching out on thoughts!

This is why for most larger sites/platforms we will be seeing things happening more and more. If we want to keep the anon on the internet we need to be smart about it and not give reason for some of these policies to get put into effect to begin with.

But to relate to the main point, if the platform did not have this type of content, then there would be no need to ask the users for this type of data, and the time/effort could be put into tooling to better protect the users.

For sure, and also to amend my original point, I would like to say age-gated/age-restricted content shouldn't be on discord.

Like A.I there is a lot of heavy lifting that just a large bucket phrase like NSFW is doing.

It is a large scale effort to de-anon the internet at large for several reasons.

In relation to what we see with Discord right now, public trust is at an all time low from its own data breaches (3rd party related or not) and also that a vast majority of other companies are taking bio-data and selling it in mass to make a quick buck.

I, for sure agree with that second point, specially with platforms like reddit as the large case and point.

Tools; The problem here is the security around keeping that data safe. Age-gated content (porn, gambling) comes with a whole host of oversight that most platforms don't think about up front.

Not what the platform set out to be, even when it is trying to do several themes at once.

But also to amend that, I don’t think discord should have an age-gated content, which usually falls under NSFW but also stuff such as gambling.

If this was a self hosted platform, it would be different.

I did actually, also spent time through out the day speaking with others who are much closer to the change.

“Protect the kids” angle, pre-emptive policy for politics, or securing the IPO aside.

My point still stands that you shouldn’t use discord for NSFW age gated content or sensitive info.

I don’t think NSFW content should be on discord at all.

If you want that, take the nitro subscription and server boosts and go and purchase a domain and slap a website or forum on it.

(Will probably save you money long term tbh)
