Yesterday was the first day of astronomical spring or the vernal equinox. Our team have been noticing the first signs of the season this week, including circling bats, singing Yellowhammer, flowering Crocus and a pair of frogs. Spring is coming! 🌼

This is really interesting to know, thanks John! Sadly we can't access any of the Slow Worm records and only a small number overall from this area on NBN due to licensing & verification level. If anyone has records (particularly of sp such as Slow Worm) we'd be grateful to receive them!

Work continues on the Live Labs 2 project in East Riding this year, where we've been changing audio sensors to continue to record wildlife around Hayton village. We'll be taking all the data recorded and processing this through the BTO Acoustic Pipeline to help identify the sounds captured!

At NEYEDC we're interested in all aspects of natural history, including finding out about past fieldtrips and finds, which is why it was nice to stumble across a lovely hand drawn map from a @ynuorg.bsky.social conchological excursion to Brandesburton in 1969 - spot the all important lunch stop!🥪

We've been busy the past few weeks with our Local Wildlife Site panels, bringing for consideration candidate and existing sites that were surveyed in 2024 as part of our 10-year rolling re-survey programme of North Yorkshire SINCs and East Riding Local Wildlife Sites 🌷
