There will never be only 2 Desktop environments, there will never be only one version of the kernel floating around, there will never not be dozens of distros, that's the whole damn point. Don't be foolish.
And if the extra effort is unjustifiable, unknowable, then perhaps, stay on the AI slop OS.
It's akin to buying a car blind! SURE it will work. it'll drive you but you really shouldn't complain when you realize the car is too small for your needs, or too big to park at your place.
These distros. they'll all work. It's just about finding one that is comfortable for you.
The workstation in your office. To think that there can be only one ideal distro for all of these use cases is plain wrong.
It takes but a cursory search to get an idea of what distro to try. And refusing to sink some personal time into testing things out...
The variety, the options the various statements made by each distros are one of the best things about linux. It's not just "a secure and private box" it's the secure and private box that runs your nas, that runs your network, your gaming rig, the media center, the handheld you play on -
