Mind the age gap: making mental health matter across the life course - ILCUK One in eight people around the world suffer from a mental health condition. This figure is only set to increase as we live for longer.

Our new #MindTheAgeGap report published today finds that:

🟢 Ageism reduces older people's access to mental health services
🟢 A person loses 7.2 days a year to poor mental health
🟢 4.2% of GDP is lost to mental health conditions across the OECD

Meeting the needs of older people in prison The number of older people in prison has mushroomed over the last two decades. In 2002 there were 4,824 people aged 50 or over in prison, 7% of the prison population.

I’ve written a post over on LinkedIn about the increasing number of older people in prison and how education provision needs to adapt, based on my recent talk for @ilcuk.bsky.social.

After 40 years of improvement, ONS stats published today show life expectancy for both men and women fell in 2021 to 2023. Just one in six girls and one in ten boys born in 2023 are expected to live to 100 - in 2016, "one in three of today’s babies will live to see their 100th birthday".
