There are valid reasons why you wouldn’t want a support chat widget to become inert just because a dialog is open. What if an agent is walking you through a multi-step process that opens a dialog? There are absolutely ways to build this accessibly.

This probably wouldn’t happen in a real app where the component is likely not vertically centered. But I’ve never liked when tab buttons live inside of a dynamic container for this reason.
I feel like this behavior is ok so long as it’s not causing layout shift for surrounding elements. A subtle animation would probably help it feel less like “jumping”.
The thing I don’t really like about it is that the thing you’re interacting with (tab buttons) move in both directions.

I avoid deadlifts because I’m terrified of injuring my back. My lower back is weaker because I avoid deadlifts which makes it easier to injure my back. The cautious gym bro’s paradox.
Lots of small active breaks throughout the day. And a longer active break between main work and side work. Pomodoro really helps for me.
