I have worked with Cea for years, and she is a champion of tenants, and a terror to abusive landlords. I am so excited to see her appointed to the Mamdani administration, along with the great civil rights lawyer Ramzi Kassem
Cea is joining as Director of the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants. She’s been leading Housing Justice for All and the New York State Tenant Bloc, where she helped pass the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019, landmark legislation that closed loopholes landlords used to raise rents and push apartments out of stabilization. Now she’ll work with us to hold landlords accountable and ensure New York City tenants are living in safe, clean homes.
Cea Weaver sitting at a table signing a paper, with Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani on the left and a white soccer jersey with Brooklyn written on it hanging on the right. Mimicking a sports team signing a major player graphic. “Cea Weaver” written and signed in the top left and “Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants” written on the top right.
Welcome to A New Era, Cea Weaver!

There’s a huge opportunity here for green social housing. Even with these zoning changes, new construction faces headwinds, especially for lower-income residents. But the state is now opening space—literally—for the subsidized construction of beautiful, climate-friendly, mixed-income homes.
Early research in Illinois shows eliminating cash bail didn't increase crime. In fact, Chicago is having a big crime drop.
It's difficult to attribute that drop to a single cause (crime data is messy!) But it is safe to say ending cash bail didn't lead to a spike.

For @placesjournal.bsky.social I reviewed The Cites We Need by @gabriellebv.bsky.social ( @buscada.bsky.social )
This book sets a new bar for holistic urban research. As the author asks the reader, “What stories would you tell?”

[trying to let it go, but I can’t let it go]
IT’S NOT RENT CONTROL
a tiny, tiny sliver of NYC’s housing stock is rent controlled, an old an nearly obsolete policy. Mamdani has said many times it’s rent stabilization, which is quite common (1M apts) and different.
Cuomo should know this imho!
