I've been excitedly awaiting @graze.social's "For You" personalization, which finally dropped this week.
I'm planning to spin up a couple of feeds with it, but I figured this one should go first since the Formula 1 season is about to kick off:
You love to see it
π New feed alert!
Excited to announce - ML Feed: For You
It is the AI/ML same feed, but now powered by @graze.social's personalization algorithm.
Please check it out, and let me know what you think!
Thrilled to see @doctorow.pluralistic.net join the atmosphere on a self-hosted PDS! Congrats and looking forward to showing you how the community of creators, curators, and developers are working together to pave a new path for open social!
Mostly came down to the fact that half the people meant ANDing items together while half the people meant ORing the things together.... and there's not a great way to add that added decisionmaking without... just ending up with the full editor, lol
That is... not how any of the non-personalized sort mechanisms work. I appreciate the back and forth, but you seem to be describing exactly how the non-personalized functionality used to work, and continues to work
We are planning to bring back the simple editor but we were finding that it was causing more confusion than help.
I'm not sure I'm following - if you'd like to continue using a "new" sort, or a "Best Of" or "Trending" or any other, you're welcome to continue using it, which completely sidesteps any personalization whatsoever - if you do not select "Personalized", feeds are not personalized at all.
When you use the AI module to build a feed in Graze, the result is.... just a feed design - it is still exactly as transparent as the feed designs always are, and you're free to edit / modify the suggested design. The utility of this is purely to help get over a feed builder's writers block
This is a net new piece of functionality - existing feeds are unchanged, and this is a totally optional new tool. We *strongly* believe that we should give feed builders tools, not tell them how to use them or force their use upon them.
3. (WIP) Give regular people the ability, *if they so choose to use it*, to provide meaningful input on what the good and bad signals of engagement are within a personalized feed. Feeds should be steerable by their author towards goals they understand. This is still in progress but we have a way.
2. Couple that ability with reasonably strong tools that allow regular people to define the boundaries of acceptable content within that feed. We achieve that by joining personalization on to our existing feed engine.
1. Give regular people the ability, *if they so choose to use it*, to build a feed that is personalized. That is a long-held request from users, and we also strongly believe it needs to be an option in order to compete for folks currently trapped on other platforms.
That's fair and it does create a different type of moderation challenge. We already surface posts that are being seen a lot in a module but could do better on that front. Our goal here is severalfold, and we're not going to solve everything in one go:
We haven't built out a demo panel for it yet but certainly something we could do! It's likely *close* but without knowing all the parameters or the source code, impossible to tell. Of course, targeting a specific set of posts also complicates, but it should be meaningfully collaborative at least
It's an open question AFAIK!

Iβm such a fan of @graze.social and this is such a cool update. Try making your own feed! Itβs so easy, just a few clicks! Free yourself!
I've made a new version of the News feed using @graze.social's new personalisation feature β check it out and let me know how you like it!

ok I need to play with Graze more! maybe Iβll finally teach myself how to properly use all the features lmao
I'm playing around with this, it is pretty exciting!
I might launch a personalized version of the ML feeds if people are interested.
This would be kind of like spacecowboy's For You feed for the ML feed.
On Graze you could create a feed that specifically filters out anything related to AI, set the sort order to personalized, and that *should* be all you need!
We certainly hope the For You feed continues to grow, *but* we believe that reasons like this is exactly why we need to get that same tech in the hands of the community. It should be easy for you to design a feed that has exactly the types of content you do and do not want to see, and be personal
Calling on academics and PhD students and anyone who knows PhD students β
Thanks to @graze.social we are now using the personalized 'for you' sorting! Iβm also open to other changes to better connect us. What feels missing? Anything youβd add, remove, change? Thoughts and reposts welcome ππ»
I got a preview of this while @devingaffney.com was working on it and it's *extremely* good, super exciting to see it rolled out!
A special shoutout to @ngerakines.me who pushed and led the "move to Rust" plan, which has paid off *wildly*. Fractions of the cost compared to the original python engine. Thank you Nick!
Yep absolutely! This is a new feature and totally optional to use it.
