Every single time a new outlet feels compelled to interview an unremarkable billionaire they should pause and ask themselves if there isn't an under-represented artist, scientist, activist, engineer, or academic actually doing useful/interesting things that's more deserving of your readership's time
So Philip Glass just joined TikTok. He only has like 4 posts and theyβre simply him in what I assume is his living room playing the piano. First comment on one I saw was βyour piano is too close to the fireplace, youβll dry it outβ and if thatβs not the internet in a nutshell I donβt know what is.
Griffith Observatory is a must, best at sunset and dusk.
Also enjoyed La Brea tar pits,
Santa Monica beach.
The Getty museum for art in a hilltop museum. (I hear the mansion is great.)
Holy smokes.
" The United States is the only place we surveyed where more adults describe the morality and ethics of others living in the country as bad (53%) than as good (47%). "
Canada is the complete opposite. Fascinating survey.

It was exhilarating to watch the Crazy Canucks.
A skier wearing a yellow and red racing suit with βCANADAβ printed on the leg is captured mid-air while jumping over a snowy slope. The skier wears a black helmet and goggles and holds ski poles angled outward while the skis are parallel beneath them. Snow-covered trees fill the background, and a red banner with a white maple leaf and Olympic rings stands to the right side of the slope. The scene takes place on a winter course surrounded by frosted trees and bright snow.
On this day in 1982, Steve Podborski, one of the Crazy Canucks, became the first, and to date only, non-European male to win the World Cup as downhill champion.

There's a ROTATING raised lock in Scotland.
Whacko thing to see in real life.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falkirk...
Color photograph of the Peterborough Lift Lock showing the massive concrete and steel structure from ground level. The elevated lock chamber is supported by tall concrete towers and steel framing. A cylindrical hydraulic ram is visible beneath the structure. A Canadian flag flies atop a small tower on the right. In the foreground are paved ground, a railing with a few people walking, a planter with greenery, and a small red-and-white booth. Trees with green foliage line the left side under a clear blue sky.
At a time when most lift locks rose two metres, the Peterborough Lift Lock was a marvel of engineering.
Capable of moving boats 20 metres in the air, it remains in use to this day as a vital link on the Trent-Severn Waterway.
So, let's learn more about it!

James Doohan as Scotty sits at a control console aboard the USS Enterprise, wearing a red Starfleet uniform with a black collar and a delta insignia on his chest. He leans slightly forward with one hand resting on the console, his dark hair neatly combed to the side. Behind him are colorful control panels and futuristic set walls characteristic of the original Star Trek series bridge.
James Doohan wasnβt just Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, he was also a Canadian who served his country and landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. Then he turned to acting, was trained by Lorne Greene and even helped develop the Klingon language.
This is his story.
