Changes in your price at the pump is not why I think you should care about bombing elementary schools.

Something about most of these same people never complaining about changes in the renewables markets and never complaining about most of the more mundane swings in gasoline prices really gets my blood boiling.

Can't find any of the authors on bsky, but congrats to them on the great work!

Ignorant me used to think "oh of course T1D is genetic so people just 'know' when they are born", but the reality is it usually takes years (even more than a decade) until people are actually diagnosed. Early detection can lead to better management and better outcomes.

Newborn screening for type 1 diabetes using genome-based risk scores in the Early Check program The application of genetic risk scores (GRSs) in newborn screening is in its infancy. This study demonstrates the feasibility of large-scale GRS-based screening for type 1 diabetes risk using whole-ge...

Another big step toward routine polygenic screening in the clinic & I'm really excited to keep up w/this project in the future. Short summary: newborns get WGS and a PGS is applied for T1D. High risk correlates with increased incidence and allows for early intervention. www.cell.com/ajhg/abstrac...

Which sucks because limiting line attorney's post-DOJ career opportunities could actually be a real check to prevent them from doing *some* unethical things.

Has Mullin put out a public statement? Has anyone even confirmed he's agreed to this?

I get frustrated because I think we would make more actual progress if people were aware of this reality.

Anyway, I know I'm preaching to the choir leader here, but (1) US prisons are abhorrent (2) Noem def deserves to be held to account (3) I have next to zero faith she will face any consequences.

My favorite part about writing a literature review is explicitly that I have to grapple with the literature and really learn some things.

Passing it off to the LLM completely abandons that part.

This is pretty screwed up. Voters should meaningfully choose their candidates.

Oh yeah 100% I was debating whether to clarify "offensive to legitimate inquiry" vs "offensive to morals".

Reminds me of how Hirono asks every nominee if they've ever harassed, assaulted, or been accused of such. Totally legitimate and I'm happy she does it, but I would be "offended" if asked.

04.03.2026 20:34 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It's also in no way an offensive question. "Are you sleeping with any of your employees?" Is a totally legitimate inquiry! It's a gateway to abuse of power, discretion, and corruption! Most companies and even the US military have rules about sleeping with your subordinates.

The interviewee's ego will take over and they will talk themselves into a corner.

Reminds me a lot of reading a deposition from someone who didn't have a lawyer/had a terrible lawyer.

I think his superpower is that it's almost always a case of the interviewee being hoisted by their own petard. Chotiner knows that if he comes to the interview prepared (i.e. with fact checks and quotes) he doesn't have to push.

04.03.2026 19:55 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Steve Vladeck recently had a good interview with him. It's not impossible. My word of warning would be if Chotiner calls wanting to talk about something in the news or something which you dont have very specific, life-long expertise in--then you should immediately hang up, change your name, and run.

I'd definitely toss @williambaude.bsky.social into the former camp. I disagree with >90% of the stuff he says, but I always walk away thinking he approached the subject with intellectual honestly from his own preferred method of interpretation.

They have 1 in Fetterman (who has been 150% in on attacking Iran). Not sure if they can get 6 more, but I would sadly guess there are a couple of defections at least.

I am admittedly cynical but my immediate take is "this is a guy who is looking out for his next job and doesn't want to shackled with Trump/Maga stuff at the top of his resume but doesn't actually do anything to prevent/stop it". Hope to be wrong!

It's nice theater but im going to wait to change my opinion until Tillis actually does deny quorum, vote against nominees, etc.

8/9: But he can only make that claim by distorting the order of events, and by igoring the fact that the applicants could have gone back to the Court of Appeals after the Appellate Division's 2/19 ruling, but *chose not to.*

Thus, the ground on which Alito rested #SCOTUS's jurisdiction is bollocks.

I have lots of issues w/oped pages. One of them is that they publish propaganda for bad things instead of informative, expert opinion that readers can't get elsewhere. A paper can in fact present the defense of bad policy in other ways (e.g. expert analysis) without publishing uncritical war prop.

Oh yeah, I get it...it's just so infuriating and something that high elected officials, or say, some ex presidents/candidates should use their power to fix.

This is the kind of this people should be furious with the national party about. How are they not on the phone with every state party ensuring there are candidates?

Instead I just have an inbox full of spam donation scams.
