March 1, the Articles of Confederation were finally adopted in 1781. Long story short, they didn't work that well. They prove that the USA is always a work in progress. Through fits & starts over the last 250 yrs our nation has gotten better and stronger. America is Great, we will be greater still.

January 16, 1871 marks the swearing-in of Jefferson F. Long, the 1st African-American Congressman from GA.
Long also made history as the 1st African-American to speak on the floor of the U.S. House, leaving a lasting mark on Congress and the country.
