Before The Bride! (2026) there was The Bride (1985). Jennifer Beals plays the Bride/Eva. Clancy Brown plays The Creature/Viktor. Sting plays Frankenstein! Itβs a curious film that runs too long. But the late David Rappaport plays empathetic circus dwarf Rinaldo and is a standout.
A real fucked up good time! Incredible character design and performance of Dolly. Gory as fuck. A genuine jaw-clencher that runs true to its exploitation roots. Thereβs partly explored subtext about women being βaskedβ to play roles: mother, wife, baby, plaything, doll. Gimme a sequel + prequel.

Dug this a lot! Great performances by Kate Hallet, Aya Furukawa, Hermann Tommeraas, and Justin Chatwin. Higgins has strong sensibilities. Itβs clear she got her start directing music videos. Great soundtrack and a youthful, punk pop electricity to her twisty and chilling film.
Now watching: Sweetness (2025) Dir. Emma Higgins
Narratively, much left to be desired. Visually, and in its own shorthanded way, emotionally, Gans still locked in. Love the imagery. The β06 film is my favorite video game adaptation. This isnβt on that level but thereβs more to like than not for me. Would love to see Gansβ cut.

That flesh eating virus is straight up chewing through his neck. If this was a Stephen King novel weβd all call it the call it the Tangerine Guillotine.
My Twitter account @NewbyRichard3 was hacked by someone posting crypto nonsense. If youβre on there, feel free to report and block that account. Iβm now @RichardLNewby3 over there.
Yeah, unfortunately. I made a new one. @RichardLNewby3
Yeah itβs hacked unfortunately. I made a new one that I followed you on.
Third day of watching and just made it to 27 minutes. I canβt do it. Iβm sorry. The only thing twisted is my patience. My love and respect to Djimon and all involved. I hope it finds its audience but thatβs not me.
Had a lot of fun with this. Narrative is a little more formulaic than some of the recent Sony Animation pics but itβs also an ever-green one. Great voice acting, stylish animation, and strong blend of humor, heart, and personal stakes. Nice shout for hometown fans. Kids loved it!

I dug this! Gnarly, stylish, wildly ambitious piece of work that does a lot more than I expected it would from the onset. Itβs got real midnight movie vibes and feels like the successor to the Blaxploitation horror movies of the 70s.
Now watching: Night Patrol (2025) Dir. Ryan Prows
Paramount getting control of WB is a further descent into fascism. This isnβt about theatrical releases or physical media. This is about MAGA further controlling the news and Trump wedging his way into Hollywood influence. This is disastrous in ways that will be far-reaching.
Iβve never had any interest in the original or its sequels but Iβm game for this.
The Bride!
Undertone
Ready or Not 2
Dolly
(Also looking forward to Hail Mary, Hoppers, Slanted, They Will Kill You, and Forbidden Fruits)
Yooo, this is awesome! Congrats, @jennwexler.bsky.social!!

Love The Player. Great film. But yeah, really wild.
Sheeeet. An absolute unit. Bill Duke and Bojan Bazelli shoot the shit out of this. Great script by Michael Tolkin (was honestly a white guy wrote this π). The coolest Fishburne has been next to Morpheus. Love gangsta Goldblum, and brother Clarence Williams III. 5/5. No notes.
Now watching: Deep Cover (1992) Dir. Bill Duke
Very much on my wavelength. Yeah sure, old man yells at cloudβ but fuck it, we could use (smart) elders yelling at us. The Ring, A Cure for Wellness, and this form a thematic trilogy concerning humanityβs costly relationship with tech + immortality, the later a throughline in Verbinkskiβs oeuvre.
