How many Canadian social networks can I join in one day?? You can now find me:
- Laying an egg on @gandersocial.bsky.social
- Saying "@hey.cafe , what's going on?"
- Catching the deluge in a paper cup at @eh-now.bsky.social, eh now.. don't dream it's over
Waiting for someone to make a Moostodon
To celebrate the launch of the @npmx.dev alpha, I wrote up a guide on how to make your first contribution to an open-source project.
Let me know if this helps you make your first contribution (and it doesn't have to be code)!
I know I talk a lot about all types of contributions beyond code, but this was the first time I had to bust out some *staff paper* for an open source project. π
@gandersocial.bsky.social Hi! I just received my invitation to the beta, but only for an iOS device (which I do not have). I only have Android devices. What should I do? π
npmx is now in alpha: this is our story, as told by our team and friends

Npmx is creating a wave of enthusiastic support. Weβre in a moment where most discussion about OSS feels pretty bleak, the joy around npmx feels unique. Maintainers @danielroe.dev, @whitep4nth3r.com , and @patak.cat share their secrets.

In the age of AI it makes sense to double down on community. You will need it.
In modern community, itβs not just about making friends, itβs also about participating to benefit from the wider network effect.
People will come to save you, but they have to know that you exist.
Donβt be shy.
Correct! We're so focused on Astro 6 (very close!), and these were some security fixes we discovered instead of a "planned" release. So, we made the call to not do our full minor release ceremony with blog etc., but make the release available to those staying on v5! Still felt I should mention!
(Which is why my Android client is so important to facilitate how I am (intermittently) social. Cannot recommend @skywalker.thereforeiam.eu highly enough for daily driving! And @zonepane.bsky.social for keeping my unread position in my custom Blue Jays feed. Is it baseball? Is it birds? Yes.)
Hi, it's me confusing you all by liking and reposting days (weeks?!) later when I finally curl up on the couch to wear my glasses low on my nose and "do my Mastodon" and such things on my tablet, where all my social media apps live. π΅
LilyPond homepage, with a design that has probably been the same since the early 2000s.
if your open source software's homepage looks like this i trust you
One of these days, I won't be able to keep up with the amazing @astro.build community... but I live to fight another month!

Screenshot of an NPM package (Astro Markdown Runtime) on npmjs.org, showing basic information about a package such as its README, installation instructions, weekly downloads, size and more. It looks *fine*, and is easy to read.
Screenshot of the same Astro Markdown Runtime NPM package listing at npmx.dev which shows much of the same information, but also includes a caution banner warning that there are vulnerabilities and listing out all the package's dependencies, including a caution that the `astro` dependency is 13 versions behind.
Adding the "Tips & Tools" section for the Astro newsletter today, and you can really see the (helpful!) difference @npmx.dev provides when checking out NPM packages!
(Notably, vulnerabilities and "versions behind" warnings in dependencies.)
Built with Astro π
Gotta catch 'em all!

This is the only Astro Docs theme I recognize. Purple and orange, or it didn't happen.
It's brand new, but I've been enjoying Blue Bird Territory with Kevin Pillar, Ricky Romero, and Mitch Bannon! (I watch on YouTube, but it's available on audio podcast platforms as well.)
I don't agree with everything here, but "The demand to not just perform but to authentically want to perform. To experience servitude as fulfillment. To have no visible resentment, no interior resistance, no self that conflicts with the role. The labor of appearing to love the labor" is so spot on

My thoughts on @astro.build joining @cloudflare.social.
TLDR; I'm optimistic, still sponsoring the community maintainers, and watching closely :)

In addition to being a really great deep dive (on a subject I am all too familiar with...) the interactive data visualizations here are superb!

The elderly piano tuner who came to our basement piano when I was a teen told us that he was the ruler of Atlantis in a former life, and did a full numerology chart by hand for everyone in the house. (I still have mine!)
A screenshot of Lala and Po from the teletubbies. The screenshot is clearly taken from someone's phone, as the borders of the tv can be seen, as well as glimpses into the apartment behind them. Po is in bed wrapped up in a blanket. The text below them reads "I know you were high at my mother-in-laws funeral..."
More screenshots from the Teletubbies. Lala seems to be upset with a terrified Po. the text below reads "Did you kill the dog? Why would you do that?!"
A third screenshot from the Teletubbies, this time the same scene as before. Po is wearing an apron while Lala seems to still be upset at him. The text below reads "You're nothing but a failure of a man."
In the 2010s, the Icelandic tv station Channel 2 accidentally added subtitles from a gritty crime drama to an episode of Teletubbies.
I have translated some of the highlights
There's a little extra special "everyone is (almost) as optimistic as I am" this year... a luxury I am NOT always afforded lol π
But, it's spring! "We like our team, Barry." It just feels extra great this time around.
Hey Bryan! Do you know of any live sites in production using this right now? Would love to see some specific examples. (I'm swamped and my experimentation backlog is huge, but this is on my radar to explore!)
There will be Blue Jays baseball on my television today and I am HERE FOR the personal and collective joy this brings. π¦βΎ #BlueJays
No regrets.
What if I told you that we could turn deadlines into act of love?
Stop looking at me like that.

Screenshot of the summary of the current changes in the PR: 7 files changed, 377 lines of code added and 400 lines of code removed.
What do full-service Astro Docs PR reviews look like? Shout-out to @astro.build core maintainer @armand.philippot.eu for knowing when a (simple?) 1-line docs change has far greater effects that ripple throughout.
Check out the before and after!
