She played Venus in the quarters who she always troubled, Mladenovic in the semis(???😂) and Kuznetsova in the final who notoriously would let nerves get the best of her in big moments. So yea it aligned for her big time.

Badosa had never even competed in the main draw of Indian Wells before winning it
And Fritz only had one 250 title to his name before winning big in 2022
Vesnina had been on tour for years and hadn’t come good for a huge title
Osaka was outside of the top 40 when she won Indian Wells and had never won a WTA title
Andreescu was basically an unknown quantity
Norrie was not taken seriously as a top 30 player
Indian Wells has definitely had its fair share of “didn’t see that coming!” champions (at the time) in the last ten years.
Who would you like to see lift the trophy outside of the already established top tennis players?
