My mother-in-law was killed on a bike, on a designated bikeway, so I no longer entertain the academic approach to bike safety. Cars are an endemic danger that we are not serious enough about dealing with.
I'm all for making things inconvenient for cars, but MDOT is not. And until I see any realistic path to that, I'm all for paths that keep cars away from people.

We'll never get proper bike/ped infrastructure at grade at that location. Between ambulance routes and the M-14 on/off-ramp, that intersection will never be safe (I lived right on that corner for years, and it's only gotten worse since).

I can't disagree with the sentiment, but I think we're in a moment where patriotism is important, if only to take it away from those that clearly don't have fondness for the real principles of western democracy.
