imo servers are a necessary evil and worth organizing via one-click installs so more people can easily run things on behalf of their communities. cloudron is killing it here but there's many similarly-shaped options now, wish more devs would think this way
in the case of "bring your own data" i think they might find it more intuitive to use what they already have and understand rather than another blank slate
