it's part of a series from the last year or so, all pretty cringe, but i think the reference is specifically to 'preppers' as one of the featured niches (along with 'ai-singularity bro', and some other caricatures).

still reflects how finance often just wants to make collapse tradable

hmm, what does dumb + secure look like? i'm guessing not nostr relay, automerge server, or bsky infra

does dumb also imply simple?

GitHub as storage Could it be one of the most interoperable formats out there?

so i'm trying git at the moment and like how it works for smaller docs rosano.ca/blog/github-...

i want to say "so let's run more servers so it's distributed" 😋

Easy Indie App Run your own X<br>in a few clicks.

will share what i'm working on soon 👍🏽

imo servers are a necessary evil and worth organizing via one-click installs so more people can easily run things on behalf of their communities. cloudron is killing it here but there's many similarly-shaped options now, wish more devs would think this way

in the case of "bring your own data" i think they might find it more intuitive to use what they already have and understand rather than another blank slate

can you say more?

i'm leaning to move that chaos into a server so that web clients don't each need to register, maybe a normalized api between them too

all the more reason to do it 💪🏽

Origin private file system - Web APIs | MDN The origin private file system (OPFS) is a storage endpoint provided as part of the File System API, which is private to the origin of the page and not visible to the user like the regular file system...

by "existing drives" i meant icloud, dropbox, etc… are you leaning towards letting people bring stuff from there?

i just heard about OPFS, here it says widely supported since 2023, but maybe only via workers developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W...

so "bring your own data" but for larger files? and maybe using their existing drives?

apple's music app, synced via cable to ios, not really happy with it.

would be nice to use something that centers the specific things i repeat during a phase (some weeks of the same albums), as well as surfacing things that i've forgotten i had.

like accessibility, designing for certain constraints can also improve the experience for those who aren't affected, so everybody wins.

also nice to hear some geopolitical discussion in a tech meetup!

code and tests aren't the moat. they never were. no need for agents to copy a project. forking was always an option. the moat of an oss project is its community, its governance, and its ecosystem connections. agents will never be able to replicate that. don't hide. let's build in the open, together

i'd be curious to know if you think the metaphors in his llm-generated explanation are useful…

my paraphrase: "Implicit Grant throws your key across a lobby full of interested parties. PCKE ensures the key gets to who requested it. Neither solves impersonation attacks via social engineering."

What are your favorite visual critiques of software? On my mind right now are:

1. "The long tail of user needs"
2. diSessa's monolithic apps vs computational media
3. (a recent favorite by @todepond.com) "wish these apps could talk to each other"

also re: self-hosting, making things easy to install via one-click panels (like these easyindie.app) would be thoughtful. wish more projects would consider it
