Ooh amazing congrats!

Right yeah, youβre right, annoying we missed that π
RIGHT???
Yup this thread turned out way better than I expected!
A terrific thread on animating in games. The comments are kinda a who's who of modern indie game animation folk.
Psst btw everyone but A Highland Song is on sale right now with proceeds going to @gamesaid.bsky.social
Find out why this game hit number 28 in the Steam chart in Japan on launch. Seriously. Weβd love to know
Ah wow. Thatβs fascinating, thanks for letting me know!
The A18 Pro in the MacBook Neo is 19% faster than the M2 Ultra in the Mac Pro in single-core performance (Geekbench 6).
The MacBook Neo starts at $599.
The Mac Pro, which is still for sale, starts at $6,999.
Also behind the scenes, as part of this I decided to rebuild our website. It shouldnβt *look* any different but:
- we swapped form Jekyll to Eleventy for static site generation because Iβm happier working with JS + Node than Ruby
- we swapped from a Digital Ocean server to Cloudflare Pages
Excited to be launching this! Many of the articles in the book are absolute gold, and itβs just so *dense*.
Well done to @jon.inkle.co for executing this so beautifully, and looking to listening to the podcast myself.
And on a personal level Iβm super proud of how the book cover turned out!
Hi @ko-op.com! I was always curious about how you folks did animation on Goodbye Volcano High? I was very impressed at the quality, resolution, detail, etc!
Interesting! Nope Iβm afraid thatβs not something Iβve looked intoβ¦
Good thoughts, thanks for sharing!
Yeah Iβm super curious about it but I suspect itβs not a rabbit hole I want to dive into :) think Iβm going to stick to sprite sheets + project specific optimisations!
Interesting, thanks!
Oooh good point. Also those different layers donβt need to even be the same resolution / detail level / have the same similarity threshold
Right yeah, Iβve never used Bink but I suspected theyβd be good at exactly this kind of thing!
Or it could be refined per-art-style if we know thereβs more temporal similarity than spatial etc. lots to think about!
My thoughts are mostly churning over the fact that it must be very dependent on art style, lots of painterly detail differences between frames would probably prevent it working so well π€ but if we could move some of those details to a post process it could helpβ¦
Interesting, sounds super similar to what @desplesda.net described here bsky.app/profile/desp...
Finished watching, I learned a lot, it was very helpful, thanks!!
Excellent point! Not a good fit specifically for us, but totally makes sense.
Blowing my mind already @desplesda.net
Ah fascinating, thanks for sharing! Sounds really interesting, Iβll have a watch
Simply because itβs not the art style weβre going for. We went full hand drawn for A Highland Song and I fell in love with it.
That said, itβs possible we could use a mixture in future.
ππ good to know

Excellent! From what @wadjeteyegames.bsky.social says, it sounds like AGS has done some work to make it scale better for higher res sprites which is good to hear!
Hah, nice!!
Woaaah only storing the edges, thatβs very cool!
I guess thereβs a lot you can do with a flat shaded art style that doesnβt work so well if itβs painterlyβ¦ π€
