His farewell speech in 1961 is well worth reading. He coined the phrase "military industrial complex". I had read that one of the drafts of that speech referred to the "military industrial congressional complex" but he opted to not take a jab at congress as he was leaving office.

Pres. Eisenhower was a very good man and leader. I watched both political conventions in 1956 as a 6 y/o. He'd had a heart attack the previous year but he was so well respected that he won re-election with 57% of the vote.
