Nevada’s rare Fish Lake tui chub nears a key step for an endangered species listing The Center for Biological Diversity sued in 2023 and secured a settlement last year that forced the government to decide by May whether to list the fish under the Endangered Species Act.

Public comments originally ended last year, but have been reopened. 🤔 perhaps because of the Rhyolite Ridge Mine.

We need people to show up with specific concerns. We need support to list this species, or $$ will win and it won’t be listed.

The Fish Lake Tui Chub, used to live in a half dozen springs in Fish Lake Valley in southwestern Nevada; they are now found in just one spring system that is threatened by groundwater pumping (for alfalfa).

Organizing > Big Ag power. 30+ orgs asked the USDA to stop subsidizing factory farm gas in the Rural Energy for America Program, and the USDA issued a 90-day pause on those grants. Factory farm gas increases pollution, entrenches the factory farm system, and costs millions.

Notable that #USDA halted loans for manure digesters for 90 days after this petition was filed. USDA found that 27% of digester loans are in delinquency. These expensive projects depend on public subsidies, credits and loans to be economically viable.
