Their work has often been supported by the oil & gas industry or promoted by its groups like the Global Climate Coalition to spread public doubt about global warming & block climate rules. In 1999 the American Petroleum Institute started an "industry response" for EPA regulating CO2 buff.ly/vEz0WfU

What we learn from that process is telling. Highlights: an AI review of the report points out the group's own cherry-picking, the authors admit they would "lose the war" of scientific citations and insisted other scientists' work be held to high standards but they get "a break...we'll fix later"

As part of a lawsuit over the Climate Working Group's lack of transparency, @envdefensefund.bsky.social and @ucs.org sued and last month released, from a court order, hundreds of emails and docs revealing the process under which the Climate Working Group produced the DOE report.
