I actually quite like having a government that seems to be ignoring pathetic political arguments on social media and instead seems to be just getting on with the job. #Starmer #Labour

Just a reminder, as you look outside and notice it's already getting dark 😱, that today is the earliest sunset of the year (15:51 in London). From tomorrow the sunsets slowwwwly start getting later again. (Sunrises don't start getting earlier until Dec 30th hence solstice on 21st.) YOU ARE WELCOME.

p.s I need my hospital number - of course its not in the appointment calendar on the app, I have to navigate into the letters part of the app, open a letter and find my number. Did anyone user-test this app?!

Wrong person, they can't do it either. Hang up, call back, 3rd in queue, finally transferred to the right person & given a direct line - why didnt the app give me this number?! Anyhow started at 9.20am, cancelled appointment at 10.05. & people think we should pay £10 if we don't cancel! 4/4

Called yesterday twice, navigated the call system to get a message that said "No one can take your call" and the call ended. No message on when this number is answered. Called today, got through in ten mins to the appointment line, but they can't cancel the appointment either, transfers me... 3/4

No one asked if i could do that date but there we go. I got the appointment through a bespoke app this hospital uses, i hit the cancel button on the app - a note pops up to says you can't cancel the appointment using the cancel button, you need to call a number 2/4

At National Voices we talk a lot about patient admin and many people ask what we mean and why patients who don't cancel appointments shouldn't be charged, so here's a thread on my attempt to cancel an appointment. I was offered an appointment for 30 December - I am away so can't make it. so.... 1/4

Estimating adolescent mental health in the general
population: current challenges and opportunities
Louise Black, Margarita Panayiotou, Neil Humphrey
Adolescence is a period of change and increased mental health difficulties, which are important for lifetime outcomes.
Adolescent mental health is therefore an active research area, with large samples often drawing on self-report general
measures (ie, not disorder-specific or focused on a narrow outcome). We argue that these measures have a key role in
our understanding of issues such as prevalence, antecedents, prevention, and intervention, however, measurement
has been given little attention and high-quality measures do not tend to be available or used. We offer insights into
historical and psychometric challenges that have contributed to current problems and highlight the implications of
relying on poor measures, which at their worst can be biased and unethical. We make recommendations for research
and practice on selecting measures and improving the evidence base and make a call to action to reject low-quality
measurement in this field.

For anyone working in adolescent mental health: I *really* recommend reading this important paper about the most commonly used questionnaires (inc SDQ)

In short: most of them have poor psychometric properties, so do we even know what they are measuring?
