My Iranian grad students are incredible humans. The home of their families is being bombed and all communication has been cut off. Yet they carry on almost as if it’s a normal day.

(Yes, I am checking in with them and letting them know it is ok not to be ok right now)

I’m glad to be riding my bike to work today, while my partner takes the electric car. Quitting gasoline over 5 years ago was a good call.

The TVP is definitely flooded.

The water level at Springbank Park is 5.048 m.

Child’s drawing of a person.

I was told my faculty picture was getting too old, so I commissioned my 4-year-old to draw me a new one.

In a way, they already do, but don’t realize it. A long time ago I had a really long car commute. I arrived to work tired, stressed, and was definitely less productive than I am now when I get to have a pleasant 15 minute bike ride, enjoying the outdoors.

This is true. Western is full of great people doing great work!

Interesting reading the comments. I’ve been at Western 10 years (started at age 30, now just turned 40). Working conditions have significantly deteriorated in that time. I’m not sure if I’ll make it to age 50 if things keep going the way they have been.

All season air conditioner.

Interesting. It really sucks when an arterial road is the only possible route (e.g. crossing a river or rail tracks) and it has no bike lanes all winter. Too much traffic and speed to ride the road.

How fancy, Toronto. In London, bike lanes outside of downtown are not even intended to be plowed.

Students feel they're paying the bill for Ontario's new post-secondary funding | CBC News After an eight-year tuition freeze across the province, Ontario post-secondary students have found out that fees will now go back to increasing year over year β€” and with less financial assistance, too...

It feels that way because it’s true. Universities have no choice if they want to remain financially stable. They will not survive with current revenues. This problem sits squarely on Doug Ford’s government for refusing to reasonably fund post-secondary education.

Let’s not be thankful that Doug Ford has somewhat alleviated a problem he solely created.

Agree. It’s nice to have Level 2 at hotels to save time. But I always book near a fast charger anyways since Level 2s are not that reliable at hotels. Many front desk staff don’t know they have them or how to turn them on. Or they are just broken.

It’s impressive how well the rain cover works for securing cargo. Really should be advertised as a feature.

It shows, based on how faculty workload has increased during the 10 years I’ve been doing this. I won’t make it another 10 if it continues like this.

Thinks that all those drivers who are able need to spend 6 months cycling to work or in town before they can get behind the wheel.

Some Ontario civil servants told to get to office in snowstorm or take vacation day | Globalnews.ca Some Ministry of Transportation staff were told to get to the office despite the snow. An hour later, at 10:35 a.m., the order was rescinded.

You must attend your Teams meetings from your desk in the office! Ffs.

It would be super great if official organizations like the Ontario Provincial Police could communicate travel advisory information via, oh, I don’t know, a WEBSITE, instead of only using Meta and X platforms!

Yup. I was out in west London area last night and the roads were coated in ice. I don’t imagine that’s changed on the secondary roads. Bike is a no-go today and while the buses are running, I can’t imagine they are close to on time. I checked the live tracker in my area and no buses were visible.

It's time to embrace climate conspiracy Trump’s Venezuela oil play exposes what climate reporting has documented for decadesβ€”if we’re willing to say it out loud.

Cool, let’s make cities worse for the people that live in them and pay taxes to them, in case someone wants to drive there to access its amenities without paying for them.

This would be especially useful for when conversations head in the direction of discussing the terrible traffic/parking encountered to get to a destination. I’m always like, oh, there was traffic? Parking cost what?
