I've made a blog post out of my recent lightning talk at #c4l26, sharing some ideas I've been contemplating lately while in libraries and on trails.
The post includes my full text, links to sites and images shown in the talk, and some bonus links for context (including a book link that [β¦]

Webrecorder US Government Web Archive
Selected archives from the Webrecorder US Government Web Archive
A number of pages and sites removed recently from .gov sites now have archives viewable at govarchive.us - just substitute "govarchive.us" for "gov" in the URL that doesn't seem to work any more, and see what you find! https://govarchive.us/ #c4l26

Some sad news from the Software Preservation Network

The careful, long sunset approach is exemplary. It's a difficult time, and my heart goes out to all those affected, and especially Chelle.

@torgo yeah, I recently did this and am regretting it a bit because I have gotten into a bind with the identity verification step. I've had two people try, that I thought met the requirements and they were reviewed and rejected. π€ third time's a charm?

@anj thanks for sharing that! It rings true, and I really like the operational metaphor of salinity and the estuary.
It reminded me of when I was near the end of my thesis research and landed on the work of Charlotte Linde, who studies how story is used in organizational memory. It was super [β¦]

I know Meditation has lots of distracting accoutrements, but it is remarkable how simply sitting, however you want for 15 minutes (or whatever time you have), and paying attention to your breathing can be helpful in life.

@kissane.myatproto.social & the discussion over on Wikipedia is voluminous β¦ I guess it is no small undertaking given that:
> Over 400,000 pages currently contain over 695,000 links to Archive.today.

Wikipedia blacklists Archive.today, starts removing 695,000 archive links
If DDoSing a blog wasn't bad enough, archive site also tampered with web snapshots.
The headline does not convey how completely batshit this story is. The Archive Today (archive.ph etc) admin weaponized the site's captcha to attack a blogger who wrote about them and *altered archived screenshots* as part of the attack.

@paulwalk I was shocked & delighted at how easily it pulled in content from my local FreshRSS. Are you putting time into adjusting the "velocity" of sources? I guess you can't share the settings between devices?
(dropping some others off the replies in case they aren't trying #Current)

A book cover for Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams.
I went to my local public library, where there were lots of people, chatting, reading, looking at screens. I looked to the right and saw a book I wanted to read so I checked it out. So, yeah, I'm having a nice day. More please.

I know it is kind of pedantic, but I would argue that these are still algorithmic festures. It's just that fhought and design have made the algorithms legible and explicitly modifiable--they are not something inscrutable and Implicit happening behind the sscenes. I feel like algorithms have been [β¦]

I haven't used it yet, but it seems like there are many good design ideas for streams of updates in @tg's post about Current. One thing I realized after reading is how some of the ideas synthesize techniques/kludges I've been using in other tools.
For example using the "enable notifications" [β¦]
