I've been losing my mind with the recent war crime takes. A warship sailing under an enemy flag in international waters is unambiguously a valid military target. Otherwise, you're arguing that the military doesn't have the authority to target uniformed enemies which is an insane position to hold.

But they have been. One of the main things that your link is critical of is that the US didn't attack the industrial base for armaments that was powering the war. We very much have been hitting those targets during this war.

I don't think one tragic botched strike out of thousands of strikes tells the whole story. The successful decapitation on day one paints an extremely different picture than the one you're trying to paint.

I think we're much better prepared for a bombing campaign against Iran from an intel standpoint. Just a hunch.

I think you're fundamentally incorrect here. Lobbing a bunch of rockets at Israel in response to a political slight is usually the spectacle they choose. They lobbed a metric fuckton of rockets at literally everyone. I think they're trying their overwhelm strategy with some success but not enough

Yes, we've been actively killing the people that the rockets are meant to prevent us from killing, and we are continuing to do so. This is precisely when you expend all the materiel you can, and they've slowed down. I'm not sure why it being unexpected would change the calculus.

I've seen enough footage of launchers being destroyed and tunnels being filled in that I'll readily attribute some of it to a change in capacity. Assuming that our estimates are in the same galaxy as reality, we've destroyed a massive portion of their launch capacity in the past few days.

Not without boots on the ground at the very least. And I'm skeptical about it even then. I'm not sure how quickly the regime can pivot from underground mass manufacturing to boutique shops scattered around populated areas, but I'm sure that's the next stage if this situation is allowed to fester.

We're definitely on the same page there. I'm trying to get a handle on how effective the tactical strikes have been while I ponder the strategy (or lack thereof), and they seem to be fairly effective from what I've been seeing

We'll see if strikes pick back up any time soon, but I highly doubt it. I think their capabilities to threaten anyone outside of the area they actively control will continue to diminish. I think we're going to take some significant losses along the way, but that's a different convo altogether.

You're measuring something there. I don't think you're measuring the effectiveness of strikes, though.

I'm not making a comment on whether it's worthwhile or not. I'm commenting on whether the strikes have been effective in severely degrading Iran's missile launch capability, which I believe it has been.

I disagree. Iran's propaganda (difficult to know how true it is for this reason) has been adamant that they had the stockpiles to keep the pressure up for weeks to months. That level of slowdown implies that destruction of delivery systems at least has been effective.

This seems to be a good measure for effectiveness. The primary goal for this early stage is to severely degrade Iran's ability to launch missiles and drones, and that appears to be effective.

Just being real. I have significantly more respect for a pacifist saying that all war is evil, which I honestly agree with to some extent, than clowns pretending that sinking an enemy warship in international waters is a war crime. Give me a break

The linguistic stuff I'm hearing from the combat footage coming out of Israel, the Gulf States, and Iran is fascinating. You have civilians filming strikes and speaking in their local language, but it's interspersed with exclamations of "What the fuck," "Oh my God," and "Wooooooow"
